not technically the championship but last night saw middlesbrough lose at home to accrington stanley. i tipped boro to have a woeful season and their start already suggests that could be the case. tony mowbray was once hailed as a future england manager - what happened? his west brom team were a joy to watch but then he turned celtic into a shambles and despite having decent funds early in his reign has taken boro further and further down. i really do think we'll see three former premier league teams relegated from the championship this season, much like when we ourselves, saints and charlton plummeted. will boro be one of them? i think birmingham will be in the mix too.
I still enjoy the Championship because I love its unpredictability, which is totally unlike the Prem. I honestly have no idea who will do well this season and who will struggle. I fancy Leeds might finally get their act together, as might Leicester. It's hard to see more than one of the relegated teams going straight back up, although they all began with wins. I'd like to see both Yeovil and Bournemouth survive. And I agree with Superman - perhaps some big names will fall again.
Tbh I only pay attention to the league we're playing in, the last couple of seasons I haven't paid any attention to the Championship or other leagues. But with so many ex NCFC players in the league and the teams in it, I must admit I will be keeping an eye on it this time.
On a selfish level I would hate us to return to the Championship because it would mean I had almost zero chance of ever seeing us on TV again and I would be reduced to the occasional dodgy stream and, most weekends, just waiting to watch the numbers change on ESPN updates. But, being less selfish, the Championship isn't the end of the world. It's competitive and interesting, and if you are not one of the big four or five, it means you actually can dream of something positive rather than mere survival. Best of luck to all the teams in the Championship. Personally I'd like to see Yeovil, Bournemouth and Brighton doing well.
Same here. I was never that interested in PL footy while we were in tiers 2 and 3 and likewise I've lost touch with the Championship since we came up. Will defo be keeping tabs on it this season tho.
That was pretty much my sentiments in kicking this thread off. It's an exciting and unpredictable league that rarely goes with form.I thought Ipswich might end up in the top six but they have had a pretty torrid week. They desperately need three points today. What odds that Moro will scupper them?
How ridiculous is this, and so utterly typical of the BBC when it comes to anything to do with 'Arry and QPR. Under the headline "QPR held to draw by Huddersfield" we have this: "Huddersfield produce a dogged display to prevent QPR from maintaining their 100% start to the Championship season". "maintaining their 100% start to the Championship season", that's 100% after ONE game (along with how many other clubs?) No mention of Yeovil's 100% start I notice, and how Watford prevented them from maintaining it .........
The Wallies should be suing Morison under the Trades Description Act, him claiming to be a striker and all that...
You trying to spoil my evening carrabuh? Firstly subverting my demonisation of the BBC, secondly thinking the same about something. (And I can't even look forward to your comments on today's match to make me feel better).
I'm a little surprised that QPR are still hot favourites.Their opening games against Wednesday and Huddersfield, two sides that probably have a top half finish as the limit of their ambition have yielded four points.By comparson Leeds for example have the same return from Brighton and Leicester who are both potential top six sides.Of course I realise that you only get the opportunity to beat the teams you play but I do wonder how well they will do when they come up against other top rated sides.Well Ipswich up next for them....
Really torn over this one - I'll settle for a draw as I don't want either to win. I watched the QPR v Sheff Wed game on the opening Saturday and although QPR deserved to win (they were the better side), they were not that much better and still a bit open at the back.
Doncaster 2 Bllackburn 0 Are we seeing the new Wolves emerge in this year's Championship.A single point from three games does not bode well for the Venky boys.Do I smell a change of management? Perhaps a headless chicken required!
Blackburn only scraped through last season. They were very close to going down for a lot of it. I can definitely see them struggling again this year. Sad that the Venky's have screwed the club up so much.
See Bournemouth beat Wigan 1:0. And Holty played up front on his own ahead of a 5 man midfield .................. before being substituted on 65 mins.
That bloody Leon Barnett haha I'm glad for him. He's Holts roomie and he is never going to let Holt live this down.
