Then we should be looking to either: a) get a deal in place for January subject to a medical; or b) find an alternative B that is dominant in the air. I'm not keen on this 'two birds, one stone' approach in this instance, I think Lucas need serious competition for his place, not just someone to fill in when he's not available
Part of me is glad because Wisdom is an immense talent and he suits what we need perfectly with a bit of fine tuning. I agree to an extent, it's hard to attract a decent talent who will be willing to play second fiddle to Lucas, not saying Lucas' place is guaranteed or anything.
There are a couple of quality DM's in the Premier League at lower rank sides but the old British Tax will be applied.
Tettey from Norwich I believe could become very good and mulumbu from WBA or the Argie that they have in the middle ( completelyforgot his name! )
Nearly have a deal with Valencia's Aly Cissokho. Would that be our second or third Cissokho? 'West Ham have made a shock £6million move to sign Liverpool winger Stewart Downing. Former Middlesbrough wideman turned down a switch down south to Upton Park earlier this summer. But the Hammers have come back in and the 29-year-old - a £20m capture from Aston Villa just two years ago - is set to cut his losses after failing to establish himself at the Anfield giants. The transfer fee, which could rise to £6m based his on appearances for the Londoners, would represent a massive loss for Liverpool who have also written off £20m in selling Andy Carroll to West Ham this summer. But Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is staging a clear-out of players deemed to have no future at the club as he reshapes the squad for a tilt at a Champions League place over the coming campaign. Talks between West Ham and Downing are at an advanced stage over terms, with one of the stumbling blocks being the player's wages of around £80,000 a week. But Liverpool are prepared to pay up some of his remaining contract to facilitate the deal, and it could be finalised as early as next week. Rodgers meanwhile, has moved to end the speculation over the future of Daniel Agger, by naming him as the new vice-captain of the club. Barcelona have long been rumoured to be interested in the Danish defender, but Liverpool insisted this week that they had received no bids or any contact from the Catalan club. The Reds boss stated bluntly the centre-half was going nowhere: "Daniel's loyalty and his passion for Liverpool is second to none. And if you add that on to his footballing qualities, then I think it's a good choice for everybody." One player who is leaving Liverpool is midfielder Jay Spearing, who has joined Championship side Bolton on a four-year contract after an extended spell there on loan last season. In terms of incoming players, Rodgers has apparently moved closer to landing completing a move for Valencia defender Aly Cissokho. The player claims he has agreed terms with the English club, though the clubs have yet to settle on a fee.'
rodgers says nothing is imminent. what does that mean? need to sell first.... OR waiting and seeing.... I think we spent our summer budget in the winter window... but we spent it damn well. we've also i think spent the carroll scrapings fairly well too. so all in all the only gripe i have is reina. NOt really expecting an arrival until downing goes. Then if you look at how much we'll have taken in i kind of expect it to be that LB.
possible we could have done mito, so do you think the bids over £20 mill odd we have tried to put in for players was based on selling Suarez then? i personally think we have money to spend unfortunately no players seem to be up for it, well ones we are allegedly after anyway, still like to know if its just media bull or we are still looking at Eriksen,Papa,Costa,Toby,Cissokho etc
i don't know.... the mkhitaryan one seems we never talked to him so i dunno... and costa one was jumpe don all at once so it surely looked real but then his club denied it. I don't know. We could have bid 20mil for each... i just don't know. I do think the club is seeing that theres no point buying crap english or anyone else's players for the sake of it and it would seem that it may well be nobody we want wants to come. which makes eriksen utterly baffling. the press is making out he's courting us.... I kind of expect to see skertl go to napoli then us try to buy papadopolous...... skertl 12mil... downing 6... (FFS) spearing f all. theres 20mil to spend again... just turn up at ajax and by eriksen and alderweireld... Papa and cost on the other hand = the guts of our 40miil if we have it. roll on aug 31 for skys 24 hour coverage... them haning round harry redknapps car window and general shenanigans by tottenham.
I think we will bring in a left back and that will be it for the Summer. The squad is in better shape, and I think we are in with a shot at getting that 4th spot. But as things stand now you would have to say the best Squads are Man City Chelsea Man U And Spurs. The start to the season is crucial if we are going to make a fight of it.
Rodgers on transfers: Read in to that what you will. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/142195-rodgers-on-suarez-transfers-and-more If we can bring in Papa and no other, but Suarez stays I think I will be satisfied. I'm pretty satisfied already
Eriksen's agent has been whoring him around most clubs in Europe trying to bag a move. Supposedly that's why Liverpool aren't too keen; he's not quite the 'run through brick walls for a club' type of player and would just want to move on again in 2 years. I think we'll buy one or two more players - but it'll be after we've offloaded a few first. Spearing is going, Downing next and then Skrtel on loan to Napoli (or Zenit for a straight transfer). Then maybe a defender and another flexible forward. I just worry we've not strengthened the midfield
another year nearly done... with reduced expectations yes the business looks reasonbale. with top 4 aspriations thngs look shaky... comapred to a city or cheslea we are looking really weak. it depends on point of view i guess... i saw some comment some where talking about whos in and who's out and generally those in are better than those out. i think they put adam out and coutinho in... or shelvey out, alberto in... you can't go do much more without money. I would think that is skertl does go someone must be bought... i think we'll do a deal on cissohko eventually. if its only 4mil i'd buy if required could be done late. After this really there is a problem. team in 5 years? Minger? wisdom kelly an aged agger? enrique Gerrard still, lucas? allen probably Sterling aspas ibe? Who knows.... usually there should be at least 8 new players in 5 years.
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...n-bid-to-sign-Schalke-s-Kyriakos-Papadopoulos Latest from Schalkes owner. I'm refusing to get too interested in this as it sounds exactly like the Gaston Ramirez case last year. I think we had about 10 bids for Ramirez accepted last summer according to caughtoffside.
Make of it what you will - But a possibility? http://topsy.com/s?q=Luis%20Muriel%20liverpool&window=h http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2013/08/lfc-transfer-news-luis-muriel-scouted-by-liverpool-udinese-18m.html
So, because we may have finished for this window, how does that mean our team in five years time is going to come from our current squad?
Five years would see the arrival of about twenty-five players (average four in summer and one in Jauary)
I will be worried and dissappointed if cissokho is our last signing. We need a CB and we really need another forward player, regardless of Suarez. Rodgers has said the same.
I'm honestly not. If they don't buy because the various targets they want aren't available ill not get disappointed as much as buying for the sake of a body: nothing has depressed me more in the last few years than bodies for the sake of it coming in in dribs and drabs then disappearing or hanging around the team photo. I didn't even mind big buys not working out (one way or another the management of the time paid for it) as much as a continuous line of blah. By all means I'll scrutinize the areas I think are a bit weak or lack depth in the season ahead but I like the look of what is effectively going to now be Rodgers squad. So the responsibility is now well and truly his. On the 5 years time thing (this being year 2 I'd have said 3,years time) well if BR thinks this is the "squad" I assume this scouting team will now be looking at adding the "special" players if what we have in terms of youngsters fails to develop. If they've got the foundation half right that means a 50% failure rate of existing buys and youth so we only need to pick up 2 players that work a transfer window. That's 6 players that should be first name picks in 3 years of windows which means 12 players bought in all keeping in mind the average failure rate of a good management team. If it is working year after year we should be moving up the table, getting nearer cups, etc so i assume start attracting the ready made stars again. Which will help. If it doesn't work well, that's on the management team. Still generally happy with how it's going!
