    boumsong was gash

also silvio maric, stephane giuvarche, marcelino, luque, karelse... actually this could turn into a long list. Nicky Butt was ****ing abysmal by the time he left.

No new signings yet today and I'm already bored.
Back to one of our most expensive flops and disappointments.

Talented player for me. Was slightly unfortunate as he was a number 10, and we didn't play that way. The other two roles he could fill were occupied two of our most high performing players, Robert and Speed. I remember watching him in U21 championships before he signed, him and Cech stood out like sore thumbs. Had some very good games for us early doors and everyone was really excited. However he never nailed a position, we never played in way to suit him and it just went downhill from there with him eventually disillusioned.

    Would agree with you there.
Probably wrong for me to name him in a worst player thread, cos he wasn't by any stretch of the imagination.

More disappointed than anything that he didn't produce what he was capable of, but, you're right shifting Robert and Speed was always going to be difficult for him.

We've had our share of duds over the years but for me the biggest dud has to be Boumsong.

It takes a determined effort to ignore everything you subsequently learned about him, but for the first half season he was here Boumsong was class. Try to find match reports from those initial, golden months and you'll be amazed.

I remember time and again we'd be under pressure with the ball bouncing around all the dangerous areas of our box and Boumsong would come by, sweep it up and get us moving down the pitch. Huge cries of "Boum !" would ring out around St James.

And then over the summer they did a body swap or something.

I know it seems hard to believe now but it's true. It happened. Honest.

I saw him playing for Celtic when they shouted Boom every time he touched the ball. It just kind of continued when he came down here, but the class of football was that little bit better than he'd been used to.

Probably Juan Sebastian Veron . Even though he was a great player in the serie A. He could just never adapt to the English game.

Since leaving the game Whitehurst has trained greyhounds, ran several public houses in his native South Yorkshire and worked in the building trade and in the stores at BP Saltend and Drax Power Station. In 2008, he was found guilty of benefit fraud and given a suspended prison sentence

after the recent talk of Mick Harford, has anyone mentioned him.

He was crap of the highest order and made the likes of Whitehurst look good.

Can't hold it against Marcelino that he couldn't play because he had a sore finger.

Ah, another name change. Still, good point. Veron just couldn't cut it at Newcastle. Same happened with Crespo, really. And Sergei Rebrov. Wish we'd never bought him.

Don't be too harsh on the players. If we were all confused when we famously switched to a red home shirt, how are the players supposed to grasp it?
