Aye, but teams such as Celtic, Ajax and Benfica used to be able to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea on player signings even up to about 10 years ago. Now we can't compete because the big leagues are running away with mega TV deals - so something needed to be done to make sure the Champions of Scotland, Portugal or Holland were not getting pushed further into the abyss every year by the less supported 4th placed team in one of the superleagues.
