Forgetting the obfuscation and deceit one minute, and the crass move to some imagined new undiscerning fanbase, the Allams may 'own' the club but for me they are the current leaseholders, and tamper with this listed institution at their peril. Old man Allam is a PR disaster, and today's interview shows he must thinks we're mugs if he thinks we will swallow his line of reasoning re 'common', 'AFC' etc Every football club in the world has FC or AFC in its official title. "And it's Hull City, HULL CITY FC, ..."
Should we get relegated next season and back in the championship then what? Our world wide brand will be even less so what the **** is the point?
If you wanted foreign fans then I would create an MLS team. The Yankees and Man City have come together to start a new MLS team in NY. Which guarantees that most Yankees fans in NY will now be Man City fans. I would partner up with a team like the Tigers or the Heat a team like that in a few million plus city that has an established pro team here and form a new MLS team with that team. Then buy a couple Americans from the national team and you have a fan base. Beyond playing really well and earning new fans it is going to take something imaginative like that to get new foreign fans a name change isnt going to help.
Sorry buddy - don't get why that makes it right to **** with your heritage ... who's to say someone else (perhaps with less dosh admittedly) wouldn't have stepped in but at least have respected over 100 years of tradition ...
We don't have any assets to speak of. Flog the land in Cottingham for housing, and train in West Park and I think Messrs; McGregor, Chester, Figgy, Davies, Koren, Aluko to name just the six might disagree about that a tad..
There is a coastal town of Hull in Massachusetts I believe. Problem solved - set up a MLS team called Hull New England Tigers based there, pair them with us and we remain Hull City AFC. Even better it's just about as close to Kingston-upon-Hull as the USA gets.
Clearly some of your are struggling with the concept of ownership. He who owns can do the what the **** they want, with what they want, and when they want to do it. Simples enough or do you want me to draw you a picture?
You can't just put houses on land. You have to get planning permission. If the Allam's shut down the club then the players would become free agents.
I think we understand the concept of ownership. Would you care to explain why it is a good idea to change the name?
Whether it's the greatest or worst idea ever, the point is.... it's irrelevant. He owns the club so he does not have to justify it to you.
No it's all about opinions that's all And to me Hull City or Hull City Tigers makes no difference to me. I will still sing City till I die and all the other City chants and Tiger chants as usual.
