Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has sent out a warning to the club's title rivals by insisting he has the best squad in the Premier League. Pellegrini inherited a group of big-name players when he succeeded Roberto Mancini as Manchester City boss earlier this summer. The Chilean has added further options with the signings of Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic for a combined cost of around £90m. Manchester United and Chelsea have not spent so heavily, while Arsenal are yet to bring in a big-name recruit and Pellegrini is confident he is better prepared than other teams for the title race. "I think we have the best squad in England," he said. "I think we have the best squad in England. We bought four important players, we already had a very good team and with these four players I think we improved a lot." Manuel Pellegrini "We bought four important players, we already had a very good team and with these four players I think we improved a lot. "We hope that from the first match against Newcastle at home we will start winning, and we will try to bring another trophy here." Pablo Zabaleta received the club's player of the year award for 2012-13 at City's season launch party and the Argentinian shares Pellegrini's confidence ahead of the new campaign. He said: "I can guarantee to everyone that we have been working really hard in pre-season and we are very hungry for more trophies, and we aim to win something this season. "The atmosphere in the dressing room is great. We wish the new manager and all his staff the very best of luck for the future." ------------------ is it any wonder ffs? Same with Mourinho, it really annoys me I know it takes more than the money to get them playing but they have the very best and he comes out with "weve got the best squad" I'd have more respect for the likes of these two if they managed to get Derby County out of the Championship or won a trophy for Arsenal
He is making a bit of a rod for his own back with this though. He will have no excuse come the end of the season if he doesn't deliver them the title
In fairness to Pelligrini, he took the unfashionable nobodies Villarreal into the CL spots in his first season in Spain & then got them to SF's of the competition the following season. I think he's a really top manager tbh & certainly an improvement on the dull as dishwater style of Mankini.
It's all part of the pantomime that is the Premier League. At least he only said "a trophy" and not "win the league" I like Maureen, I fail to see why so many Liverpool fans can love Shankly, and hate Maureen. Next you will be telling me, you don't like Ian Holloway!!!
haha, Maureen is ace, it'll be great to see him back in the PL this season, he's going to mince Moyes in the mind games dept. Holloway is a goon though, he's like the embarrassing mate who won't shut the **** up after he's had 2 pints, talking absolute ****e & then ending the evening telling you that he loves, before throwing up on your shoes.
It's just a bit of pumping up the squad before the season starts. He does have a great squad though. Jovetic, Negredo, Aguero Silva, Toure, Navas Nastasic, Kompany That's 8 players I'd love to have at Liverpool.
I just cant stomach the Chavs mate, no respect for anyone and are an awful club from staff, to players and some very disgusting fans (I know we all have them but they seem to take the biscuit) I'll never forget their booing/chanting of the Hillsborough minutes silence, complete scumbags
Yeah im well pleased hes back in the Prem. I like McCarthy as well just for his old boring manness (is that a word?)
Ive nothing against Pelligrini, seems a decent manager. Didnt work out at Madrid for him though did it? Yeah it all went a bit wrong for Manchini. City start being awful under him
City won't win it this season, they'll be strong but Chelski are my pick for the title. Next season however I think they will walk it once everyone has settled in and they've identified which players and what tactics work and those that don't. Maureen's already got Moyes' number in the mind games dept, the Rooney pursuit is as much that as it is about adding to his squad. If they don't end up buying him then the mental turmoil it's caused Utd will be satisfaction enough.
like arsenal there is no "prize" for CL. don't forget that little trap has left arsenal look weaker and weaker over time. He is a good manager, better than mancini but he neglected to mention who left as well and frnakly i'm not sure he's the best choice for that job so i expect city to be strong at the off.
