So is it definitely end of story with Damiano? Have we given up? Or will there be a turn around? I predict a massive last-minute U-turn for him and the club. He apologises publicly, acknowledging the greatness of Southampton, their ambition. Passion. He will state that our time is now. Our vision is clear. Our honour is true.

In all honesty I'm starting to think that we are probably done for this transfer window, unless a player we can't turn down becomes available. I think we missed out on our 3rd target (Damiao/Banega) and we won't just sign anyone to make up the numbers.

I'm just reading between the lines from MP interviews, could be way off the mark, but as I say it wouldn't surprise me if this was the squad we had come end of the transfer window (minus a couple of the fringe players like Sharp and Hammond)

 

I would be surprised and disappointed if that were true. Not getting your first choices is forgivable, particularly if you are being as ambitious as we are, but not having a second or third choice and getting someone to improve the team would be disappointing; when you consider we have a relatively small squad it wouldn't take much to improve it.

 

I'm far from concerned. The club will work on deals. We're still after a forward.

 

I'm not particularly concerned if we didn't sign another player. I think we have improved our squad from last season and can see us finishing around 10th which I would be fine with. Think that is a better option than potentially spending big on a player we weren't 100% about.

 

I'm sure that's right. We're just not good at being patient!

Well, he was linked to Barcelona after they couldn't get Luiz, so it kind of is news in that sense.

 

Last Summer we signed Yoshida, Mayuka and Ramirez all within the last few days of the window, as well as Cody Cropper I believe and Boruc as a free agent in September. I think our deals take a while because Cortese is quite reluctant to agree to the other team's/player's demands, won't like huge media attention on the deal and wants to make sure the deal is done on his terms, not theirs. Obviously good for the club but frustrating from a fan's point of view!
