    http://www1.skysports.com/football/...triker-shola-ameobi-could-leave-st-james-park

Shola Ameobi has hinted that he might be forced to leave Newcastle in search of regular first-team football.

Ameobi, who has spent his whole career at Newcastle, is in the final year of his contract at St James' Park.

The Nigerian international found his first-team opportunities limited last season and the arrival of Loic Remy and links with other strikers has left Ameobi to consider all his options.

"This year is a big year for me," Ameobi told Sky Sports News. "I am in the final year of my contract and got the World Cup at the end of the year as well so it is important I put myself physically in the best shape I can.

"For Newcastle I always give 100 per cent like I always have and if I am here that is what will happen.

"If they bring in strikers I might have to see what else is out there because I need to be playing football - that is really important for me this year.

"I have played here all my career and I love this club to bits, but I have put myself and my family and my situation first now and make sure I am getting the games in because that hasn't happened in recent years."

I refuse to get over-excited about yet another rumour. That said, it'll be the deal of the Summer by a mile if we can pull it off....

I find it staggering that he has the nerve to suggest he's worth a starting place.

Over the years, he's shown flashes of real quality.

Sadly though, it's potential that was never tapped... he's been lazy and inconsistent.

'Play me or I'll go' eh Shola?

Off you go then, and thanks. <ok>

I actually feel for Shola a bit.

Sure, he is lazy and at times plays like a donkey. But I think his moments of sheer class are proof of a great talent that sadly didnt materialise, and I believe it was due to playing through the pain barrier for so long, when we had no other options.

His goals against Tottenham and QPR in the past few seasons have not only been point rescueing, but have been moments of individual talent. There have been games when he has come on and looked the best player on the pitch. Admittedly, they are becomming more and more outweighed by games when he has come on and been useless.

I for one think its probably for the best he moved on, so he can play regularly and achieve a dream of playing at the world cup.

I will always thank Shola for being the catalyst for out promotion. People never seem to comment about how much of a mess our club was going in to that championship season, and for the first few games, Shola was immense. That hatrick against Reading breathed life into our club that we can boss that division, and had it not been for injury, am sure he would of been top scorer in that league. But then I guess we wouldnt of had the emergence of Andy Carroll, the £35 mil etc.

In short, best if he goes for both parties, but I will never bring myself to loathe a man who loves the club as much as he does.

I once played a five a side match and slammed one in from my own half with a bullet left foot shot. One of many glimpses of talent that never materialised. Now, where's my £1m a year contract?

Nobody has mentioned 'loathing' the man.

It's simply year after year of never getting enough out of him.

Nobody doubts his talent or love for Newcastle United, but we have every right to question his first-team claims, work-rate and application. <ok>

Oh absolutely. I didn't mean to accuse anyone of loathing him, it was just a way of saying he seems to get a lot of hate.

Shola has about 2 good games a season in him with the rest being rubbish. Sadly I fear the Championship is his level now and for his service I'd let him go for free to enable him to pick his final club.

    New contract time for Shola.

    Shola v JFK at Poker.
An expert against a novice, so in about 3 weeks time I expect JFK to proudly announce that he has signed Shola for a further 3 years to cheers all round.

51 goals in 13 seasons tells its own story. Nice bloke, but niceness doesn't win you games.

One of the worse players to ever disgrace the shirt and I would love him dearly to **** off but he won't as he has too good here. Why would he want to leave? World Cup year? Don't make me ****ing laugh! Nigeria would have to be desperate to start a player as wretched as him.

He'll always be remembered, but no great loss. We need to replace him though. We can't just let players go without getting someone in.

Not good enough. Wish him well as always been very professional away from the pitch. If some of the more talented players we've had could have been as professional away from the game, we'd have had some serious players (Dyer, Bellamy, Emre, HBA etc)
