I'd be more worried as a Newcastle Supporter. There Management/Boardroom setup is a joke. Their top players could all still leave (Cabbage for one). They are weaker then last season having lost Perch/Simpson without replacement. Their only replacement (on loan) has a meeting with Metropolitan Police's finest soon.

We both have reasons to worry! Like we both have reasons to be optimistic! Typical days in the life of a SAFC/NUFC supporter!

Wee Jock. You'd be hard pushed to find any Sunderland supporters on here not optimistic for the coming season. If we get 2 fullbacks and another midfielder (English it seems) then we will be in a good position to push for at least a top 10 place. I'm not worrying about anything.

I'm not worrying about anything. After more then 40 years of supporting the lads (apart from part of Reid's reign) I think that we finally have a professional setup in place to push on to the next level. From the fitness of the players, the type of players that we are bringing in, the scouting setup and the chairmen we are all singing from the same Hymnsheet.

    KTF FTM!

My dad isn';t very optimistic at all - but he's turned into a right miserable grump!! (He's not on here though)

I'm cautiously optimistic - but would still like full backs into the club!

I'm sure my Dad would have been optimistic. If we brought in the full backs and Huddlestone would you be Optimistic? Is you lack of optimism caused by an unrealistic ambition of were we will finish next season?

I was more optimistic at the beginning of last season! That went tits up! So this season I am being cautious! Like political 'revolutions' (Russian for example) the masses were fully behind them due to the promise of better things. But most revolutions the population end up being worse off suffering from lives of fear and drudgery!
The thing that worries me the most is our hugely uneven fixture list! Our run of difficult home games before Xmas could be the clincher! If we are clear of the relegation zone around the festive period I will be well impressed!

They don't though. They had so many injuries last season and half the squad came in January that they probably never played a full team and then add to that the Kinnear effect.

no matter the comments i still think they are much better prepared

Fullbacks include Debuchy, Santon and Haidaira........all specialists plus i'm sure they'll have some midfielders who can fill in there. We have no specialists in that area and don't say PB as he's not part of the squad.

They have two ball playing centre midfielders in Cabaye and Sissoko..........both very good at getting goals and assists......we have none and the one we're meant to be after......Huddlestone doesn't fill me with confidence (he's slow and massively injury prone, im pretty sure his assist record isn't that good either)

Santon, regardless of the word "Specialist" was terrible last season. Colback was a far better left back than him last year.

Agreed about Sissoko and Cabaye but we'vbe seen nothing of Cabral so how can you judge on that - and the very little we have seen has seen him score a goal and play well so it really is a null and void point until the season starts - I know it's your opinion but I can't help but think theres some completely unknown things that you're putting on here.

The only thing that will tell is after the last day of the season - that's when we'll know

    Well said.

Newtownlee - Look at it this way how have both teams improved from when we beat them 3-0 last season?

    Look at our squad.....

Mig -> Manone (worse...but who knows, either he or Westwood may step up to the plate)
Bardsley-> ????? .. we will bring in a specialist Right Back which will be an improvement although
O'Shea -> O'Shea .. same but with 2 better players then Cueller and Bramble for cover. Also he is fitter then last season.
Cueller -> Brown... vast improvement like a new 5 million pound signing. And better cover.
Rose -> Colback ... maybe worse but i rate Colback and we will probably sign a recognised LB before the start of the season.
N'Diaye -> Cabral... Improvement Cabral looks to have more movement, speed and can finish.
Larsson -> ????? ... Maybe Huddlestone? This will be an improvement.
Johnson -> Johnson... Improvement he looks sharper and is fitter then last season.
Mcclean -> Jacky... Improvement... need i say anymore?
Sessegnon -> Sessegnon.. fitter, leaner and wants to stay! Improvement.
Graham -> Altidore.. Improvement, his all around game will help Sunderland.

So we have lost Rose and Mig but improved in every other area on the pitch.

Westwood - Krul - Newcastle Win
Debuchy - Gardner - Newcastle Win
    O'Shea - S Taylor - Sunderland Win
    Brown/Roberge - Colocini - Newcastle Win
Santon - Colback - Newcastle Win

Cabral - Sissoko - Newcastle Win
Larsson - Tiote - Newcastle Win
Sess - Cabaye - Very different players but i'd say draw. Both capable of goals and assists...

Johnson - Remy - Newcastle Win
Altidore - Cisse - Draw. Haven't seen enough of Altidore but Cisse was crap last season
Giaccherini - Ben Arfa - Newcastle Win

They are surely both teams first XIs the start of the season and they beat us in nearly every department player to player

    Lets look at the subs:

    Mannone - Elliott - Draw
Ba - Anita - Newcastle win as i haven't seen enough of Ba
Vaughan - Dan Gosling - Both ****e maybe we just edge it..Sunderland Win
DMK - Marveaux - Newcastle Win
Wickham - Gouffran - Newcastle win as Wickham has only scored 1 goal for us and never looks like doing anything.
Diakite - Mbwia - Hard to say but both French and Mbwia is the multi capped international so Newcastle Win
Ji - Obertan - Running out of players here as we hardly have any wingers at the club. Ji is currently our back up left wing - Ji scored two goasl for us and Obertan one for them so Sunderland win but really scraping the barrel here.

So man for man i think i'm right in saying they have a better squad plus more and better options coming off the bench also. I'm not overreacting just stating we need 4 more players to at least complete with them this season. Imo Europa league is the only reason we were anywhere near them in the league last season.

    Surely it's Cabral-Tiote Cabral wins.

Love the way Tiote and Cabaye Both suffered massive premier 2nd season syndrome but it hasn't affected the valuation in the slightest. Where we had McClean at 5-6m after his first season but after his 2nd season syndrome we used our brains and took our rose tinted glasses off and valued him at about 2m as a result. They're still valuing Cabaye at 20m on their board! Even the premier league fantasy football league has put Tiote in the cheapest midfielder category.

Delusion is like a disease north of the Tyne.

Cabral - Sissoko - Newcastle Win (how do you know?)
Larsson - Tiote - Newcastle Win (Toite!!!! you're having a laugh)

Johnson - Remy - Newcastle Win (really...maybe for half a season!)
Altidore - Cisse - Draw. Haven't seen enough of Altidore but Cisse was crap last season (and you saw loads of altidore?)
Giaccherini - Ben Arfa - Newcastle Win (a crock v an italian international.. who had a great confederations cup!... you are having a laugh!)

Diakite - Mbwia - Hard to say but both French and Mbwia is the multi capped international so Newcastle Win (what about Ben Arfa and Jacky then??????)
Ji - Obertan - Running out of players here as we hardly have any wingers at the club. Ji is currently our back up left wing - Ji scored two goasl for us and Obertan one for them so Sunderland win but really scraping the barrel here. (ji had a great season last season in Germany whereas obertan was ****e)

They had a lucky season a couple of years ago with injuries and rub of the green, were found out last season when their paper thin squad couldn't handle the extra European games and a few injuries and next season they will suffer the same. At least we admit that we finished 4th bottom cos we were ****. Honestly the value that they put on players like Toite amazes me.
