From the Echo "Liverpool FC star Raheem Sterling today denied allegations he attacked his model girlfriend. The 18-year-old winger appeared in court today over claims he assaulted his 20-year-old partner Shana Halliday. Police stopped Sterling in the Page Moss area of Liverpool at 10.20pm on Thursday night and arrested him on suspicion of common assault. He was charged and spent the night in the cells before appearing at Liverpool magistrates’ court for a first hearing. Sterling entered a not guilty plea when the charges were put to him. He will now face a trial in September. A spokeman for Merseyside police confirmed: “Merseyside Police can confirm an 18-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with assault following an incident last night (Thursday, August 8) in Page Moss. “Raheem Sterling, 18, of Woolton, was charged with Section 39 Common Assault." Sterling was seen hand-in-hand with Miss Halliday in Liverpool city centre on Thursday afternoon. Former retail assistant Miss Halliday, who is originally from Garston, was crowned the winner of England’s Top Model of the World pageant earlier this year. Sterling was born in Jamaica but moved to London with his family when he was five and grew up on a council estate close to Wembley Stadium. He was spotted by QPR and joined them as an 11-year-old. In February 2010 he made the switch to Liverpool for £500,000 and last season under Brendan Rodgers he established himself in the first team. Sterling was this week named in the England under-21 side to face Scotland next week." Just what the hell is her name? Shana Ann Rose, or Shana Halliday?
We are all thinking the worst because he has been there before......lol But it might be that he has been arrested for giving Suarez a damn good slapping... In which case, he will be let off and Suarez will recieve a 12 match ban.
He's been charged with common assault. As in, he didn't hit anyone. He could have said "I'll hit you if you say that again" to a heckler. Common assault only assumes that the victim has felt that a threat of violence is serious. There isn't any battery involved.
I don't see nothing wrong with that. at least he hasn't bitten anyone or cheated on his girl with a team mates wife
He's still a muppet who clearly needs to get a new girlfriend, hang out with better people (or team mates) and realise that the press are watching him for ****ups. It's not like we're in a quiet spell for news at LFC, but we'd like to head there and this crap isn't helping. He also needs to grow up, get a sensible haircut, stop making babies and stop flapping his hands around.
To clarify, perhaps he has done it. Perhaps he has hit someone - though that isn't what he has been charged for. Raheem Sterling has therefore, in the eyes of the law not hit anyone - he simply did something that a person could say they felt sufficiently threatened enough that Sterling could have eventually committed battery. He could have said to his girlfriend: "Don't say that again, or I'll ****ing slap you" - which he should be punished for by the courts, the club, and his mother - to be on the safe side. He could have replied to someone winding him up: "Get out of here or I'll hit you". - which is an everyday occurrence that most people won't call the police on. So before I draw any conclusions I will wait for the court details and I'll keep in mind that last time the "witness" failed to show up to court.
It's alright Stevie DJ will give his brief a bell & it'll all be sweet. She was probably asking for it like.
He has got the haircut already, but I agree with the rest, does seem a bit like too much too young, but since he never hit anyone, I don't think he needs the book throwing at him, and I do think the club will try "educate" him a bit more. But he is too young to be trying to get him married and settled down, so hard to see what the club could actually do, other than to threaten to sell him.
We had Ravel Morrison, supposed to be the best English footaller of his generation. He was in court 3 times one of which was for intimidating a witness in a trial against one of his gangsta mates, we sold him to Westham, they loaned him to Birmingham where he sat on the bench for most of the season, not sure where he is now. Sterling looked like he has great potential at the start of last season, i hope you can direct him better than we did with Morrison, great talent is too rare for it to be wasted by mis-guided kids.
"But the hearing was put off when the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) prosecutor asked for time to tell their press office about the case." What the judicial ****!?
