"My dislike for the word 'City' is because it is common." "It is about identity. City is a lousy identity." These are the comments I find offensive. I don't think he grasps that someones City, Town or Village is a source of great pride to the average Englishman. Suppose you'll just have to hope that the re-branding will be as much of a 'success' as it has been at Cardiff. Tradition is looked past by many owners these days, and it it's not just foreign owners either - look at what Mike Ashley did at Newcastle United by renaming St James' Park the 'Sports Direct Arena'. Losing the AFC bit isn't that bad is it? But the word City has to stay. Surely? It's outrageous and I would fight it if I were you.
But this could be the start to other changes in the club OUR club cause when he has ****ed off we will still be here.
I notice you don't seem to have any issue dropping the "A" from your username. For SnB: The team name and badges on the shirts will have Hull City, Tigers, on it. All they've dropped is "The" and "AFC", 2 things I never use, and honestly don't care about that minor change. History is a funny thing. It's a record of what's happened in the past. Nothing more. The actual colours the team play in has changed in the past, the actual badge has changed a few times before. We now play in a different stadium. Did these much much bigger events cause our "history" to be invalidated and removed for ever? No. The biggest event in our recent history that WOULD have caused us to be removed for ever was stopped by the man some of you (Brady, you're a disgrace) would have publicly flogged. It's funny how all of a sudden for some of you, the Club not the forces swirling around it affecting your personal liberty and freedom to support the club is the most important thing ever. Shame you didn't all think that way when some of us were parking up at Hartshead Moor. In fact, it's slightly baffling that back then, the most important thing was NOT the club, it was making a stand on an issue and at the cost of support of the club.
All it needs is for those two to come out against the name change in favour of tradition for the anti re-branding argument to lose all credibility.
People are actually swallowing this crap. It won't make us popular abroad. No ****er will buy our stuff, because we're not successful. Look round Hull or wherever you live- most kids where Barca, Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea shirts. The club have shat on our heritage & not listened to the fans. I don't give toss about the jokes about us- some are quite funny and creative, but i am annoyed the Allams have done this without consulting the fans. We only ever attract ******s as chairmen.
Well this is my first post on the subject. Why ? I just don't know what to say,i'm gutted. Just feel really sorry for us all.
Read the interview again, they've removed the City part for everywhere outside of Hull and Allam WILL end up removing the City part totally as he states the he wants the club top be called Hull Tigers.
Ian Ashbee ‏@AshbeeIan 1h Have just done an Interview regarding the name change of Hull CIty. Managers/players/chairman/directors come and go. Club names shouldn't. Might as well post a City legends' opinion...
http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...c-to-be-called-hull-tigers-from-now-on-what/? Now been picked up on in America, and even the Yanks think it's stupid. "International Appeal," well that's possibly gone tits up.
Spot on. Nice to see him speak out against it. Too often see ex players brown nosing clubs in order to get on the gravy train...
I don't think the Allams realised how much of a **** storm this would create... It's been trending on twitter all morning, is one of the main articles on BBC Sport and has been picked up by news sites as far as America!
I emailed [email protected] and [email protected] with my discontent, if everyone (who is against the idea) does it, they'll soon get the message, albeit won't change a thing now. Its still vital we voice our opinion
