    THE MATCHDAY MAGAZINE:

Sounds pretty good. Hopefully someone off of the forum can get hold of one and give some feedback?

It'll be interesting to see if that's just a name change or there's any significant difference in the content.

Last time I tried to book online it kept chucking me out. Rang the ticket office to reset my account, didn't work, gave up trying.

If I was to drive to St Mary's to buy a ticket today, would cost me more than £2 in petrol. Same if I caught the bus. Could walk, but I'm a busy man (as you can see).

Why is it £2 extra to pay on the day?

Can't recall mass panic & deaths when people turned up for a friendly at the Dell or St Mary's before. So the "safety" excuse is bollocks. Just profiteering, simple as that.

I think the idea is to incentivise people to buy in advance, at the Liebherr Cup game last year I had bought in advance but some of my friends hadn't, the queues were ridiculous and they missed most of the 1st game.

Just as a side note, Real Sociedad were in the UEFA Champions League play-off draw this morning...

It's not profiteering, it's a tactic to get people to buy a ticket in advance so they're committed to going to the game. If you've bought a ticket in advance you're definitely going. If you don't buy a ticket in advance you may still go but you may also forget about the game, get distracted by something else on the day, get dragged down the shops with the Mrs etc etc

Yep. I was typing as you posted. It'll be interesting to hear what the real thing is like.

Now I know some of our fans are a bit dipsy, but would you really forget a game was on once you were aware of it?

I'd say those fans would just as likely forget where they put their ticket as they would forget theres a game going on.

    People still use Facebook?

Now, I will admit that I'm not cutting edge techno wise, but even an old fart like me stopped using Facebook about 3 years ago.

You might not forget the game was on, but I can well imagine you might change your mind. You wake up feeling grotty or someone phones and asks you out fishing/drinking/train spotting and you can't be bothered. However, you would go if you'd paid a massive twenty pounds a ticket (sarcasm mode). And if you still didn't go, because you'd broken a leg/died/had a baby, the club would still have the money. most businesses like the money up front and give you an incentive to pay early.

I dip my toe into the #saintsfc twitter feed now and again and instantly regret it.

Makes you understand why they print "do not eat" on silica gel bags.

Lets not forget Saints have to cover costs of stewarding and staffing the various areas of the ground etc.

Well, imagine that but worse. Genuine opinions of morons. Like the outpouring of gutting sadness at De Ridder leaving.

He was called a "fantastic player" by many.

Never ever went on FB...glad it's out of fashion...means now I am 'on trend' instead of just being an anti-geek.

But if the club is saying on twitter that "we expect a big walk up on the day" then they don't know what the crowd will be really, so will have bought in the same amount of stewards & concourse staff anyway.

Plus they have a high turnover of stewards & bar staff, so I expect many working tomorrow will be working their first game ahead of "doing it for real" at the first home game. So they will have more than they need.

So, what's the extra £2 for?

I went last year and didn't buy before. Wanted to pay at the box office but their card machines were down. In the end they gave us 2 tickets for free!

It's whether you are a half-full or a half-empty kind of person. Saints are not charging £2 extra for paying on the day, they are charging £2 less for paying in advance. It's the same as holidays...people moan about the extra cost of going in the school holidays, but I prefer to say they charge you less for going off season.
