Henry Winter saying on twitter that the name change shows lack of respect to fans. Ultimately we still have a club to support, to which we should all be grateful and we should still look forward to the season. But like the bloke from Bristol said the club's name belongs to the fans and to past generations of fans and the owners should have no right to change that for a questionable marketing ploy.
Welcome, Robin, and great post! I don't like the name change, but The football club belongs to the fans, not the Allam family. This is the act of a man who, thankfully, spunked £60m of his own money to save us from extinction. Now to me that definitely says "I'm a complete Looney-Bin", so why anyone would be surprised or outraged by this is beyond me. However, when the dear old feller is attending his harem in paradise and his son sells us to some mega rich American and we become Hull Coors or Hull Krafts or Hull Windows Eights, everything will be hunky dory!! In other words, because football is going down the pan and unlike in Germany, we have absolutely no leadership with either the power or will to stop the commercial raping of a once proud working class religion, there is nothing that us fans can do about it. So lets just get down to those terraces (sorry, I mean seats) and chant 'I'm City Till I Die" as we've always done!!
Whatever your views are ( I don't like the change) you can express them in the polls run by HDM and the Official Supporters Club.
Hull is a City and we are very proud of that fact, to drop it from our football teams name is a bloody insult and shows a complete disregard for our history, I think Allam miscalculated this one if he thinks he can do anything he wants because he is rich and bought himself a football club then he can **** right off. Sometimes I wish we hadn't got promoted last season, it's great that we have been successful but at what cost! What happens if he wants to change the name to Hull United next season? How would that sound?
That's my point. Surely the most important thing about a BRAND is a clear and certain identity. We are now in a situation where nobody knows what to call us! Oh the irony!!!
I'm with you on this & it's clear that The Allams have no interest in the history or heritage of our club or what the fans think/want
I wonder how long it will be before they decide North Ferriby United (United being a very common name in football) should be called North Ferriby Villagers (after all he has invested money in that club too)
I remember all these "Assam has got this one wrong" comments when he sacked Barmby too. There was outrage. For a few weeks... The problem with us fans is we are fickle. We'll all still turn up and support our team just like we always have.
If we were re-branded to something like Kingston upon Hull I wouldn't have minded too much. But to have a scary animal as part of our official name is cringy marketing to say the least. Who knows next year we might be called the Cash Converter Tigers.
Why not drop the name hull? Many in the uk believe our city to be an awful place can't be good for branding and i'm sure sunji in china thinks we're a team that comes from a boat
And then they will say that Hull is very common in Hull and calling us Hong King Tigers will generate a lot of sales in Hong Kong because they like Tigers.
Doesn't change. We're still Hull City, otherwise you'd be classing the 'add ons' as part of the name. You CAN colour in the 'a' in AFC.
Obviously Allam saw the massive success of the Leicester Tigers and wanted a piece of that. In all seriousness, commiserations for going from a football club to a soccer team - never had a problem with yourselves as a team, just certain individuals.
