For me JV is our best defender by a country mile. I completely understand why so many people do rate Dawson as he is a leader and a wonderful captain but he is slower than the others and he insists on playing that long ball that goes nowhere. Not suited as well to the avb game necessarily as well as the others. I agree his stats are excellent but there are many factors that contribute to that. Dembele has very similar numbers, but it was bale and jan that received the toty awards not the others. I like that we don't have an obvious first xi now. Really shows the depth we're building towards!
I've just had a little moment when I suddenly realised that we'd signed a top Spanish international striker, a Brazilian international midfielder who's young and just been voted one of the best players at a top tournament and then some young Belgian kid who I'd never heard of but all Belgians are excellent nowadays. I don't know what our best XI is because we've got a lot of pretty good midfielders, possibly a handful of excellent ones and one that can win games on his own. NEW STRIKER is here and Defoe still on the bench! Oh - and we've got the best goalkeeper we've had for years. I think this feeling is called excitement. Am I well?
I don't agree with the last few comments about Benny on here. He is easily good enough to get in other top 8 teams. Evra and Cole are better im not going to argue with that and Baines had a better season than Benny last year. But Clichy? No thanks. And there is no one else in the league I would take over him. His Cruyff turns are what make him better than other full backs. Also his passing into feet is excellent. And he scores the odd blinding goal. T I'm not going to change your minds for those that don't rate him but there are plenty that do on here. I don't want us to spend a load of money on Coentrao unless its part of the Bale deal.
So Perez thinks 85 million is too much, then he won't get Bale.would be my stance.levy should say, Pay up or shut up!
No-one should know what our best XI is because it should depend on who we are playing. We need more than eleven quality players with different strengths so that we can select an XI who can best exploit the weaknesses and cover the strengths of the opposition. For example, if the opposing centre forward is Crouch or Carroll then Dawson is our best centre back, against Aguereo or Suarez it would be Vertonghen and against Ronaldo it would be Kaboul. That's because Dawson is good in the air and strong, Vertonghen is the most skilful and Kaboul is the quickest. This is why all top managers with strong squads rotate. Always change a winning team - that's the way to stay a winner.
I love Benny and think he's been one of our best FBs of recent years. However I think that his confidence did take a hit last year and in the second Lyon game (I think) he was truly terrible. But anyway - quick search for "Assou Ekotto turn" came up with this beauty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1yLVrl3KlA (check out the pass afterwards too). (Mind you - you'll notice that it's him who gives the ball away in the first place...)
But I thought he always gives it away Lenny..... Tots - you and I will never agree on Benny so not going to argue with you about it!!
SSN still trying to get interest up on this, today saying Perez has said talks are ongoing about a "potential" transfer. 2 things, potential is one, the other, he doesn't say when, could be the season after as we expect anyway. As with Pool and Suarez, I can't see us dropping ourselves in it at this stage.
Seems like Capoue is on his way. IF he signs by the weekend, I'll be absolutely delighted. I'm assuming he can fill in at CB, and do a decent job there, so I will feel a whole lot better about the new season then.
I'm hoping this is just more media talk. If we can keep Bale and have a couple more signings I dont see why we shouldn't be aiming higher than 4th. Surely after all the intent we have shown in the transfer market he can be convinced to stay for one more season and see where we end up. He'll only be 25 next year it's not like the chance won't come again.
As with most of our transfers lately, we'll agree to the transfer at the weekend and he'll train with the squad but the actual transfer won't be completed for at least five days (as happened with Paulinho, Chadli and Soldado) I've come to the conclusion that we have all new signings take a blood test as part of their medical and have to wait several days for the results.
yeah, no doubt the departures will happen. But I expect most of that to happen at the end of the window. Who else would you like to see brought in?
