    That's the one.

I can't see this being true. Plus, the last time we dealt with Vitesse was a pain, with everything going public.

I think it will be like Rooney a few years ago.

Player "regrets" his words and go publicly with an apologise.....but in this case I think it will be a year from now for them to reach CL, otherwise next summer he will be off after a silent promise from the management....

As I posted before, it's time for football clubs to take a stand on this. Make no mistake, I am one for the individual's freedom, but footballers are paid vast amounts and part of that is that they will get their heads down and do their jobs. In this particular context, I applaud Liverpool for taking the stand they have. I hope they don't back down.

Well according to Suarez that's exactly what he was told a year ago.

I think they will back down, and are now just trying to get Arsenal to up their offer. Daniel Levy, on the other hand, will only let Bale go for the sort of eye watering fee no club could be expected to turn down, for any player. You have to respect spurs for that, though ironically Bale has behaved far more professionally on a personal level than Suarez.

At this point the only way I can see Suarez staying is if Liverpool give him a massive contract with an proper release clause that kicks in next summer.

I know he is on a big contract at Liverpool and they have publicly backed him when he faced allegations over his behaviour, but I can understand why he wants to leave. A player of his quality, and he is a quality player, should be playing in the champions league. Liverpool aren't in it and I cannot see them finishing above Man Utd, City, Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal, so 6th is a very likely finish. Arsenal, despite their trophy drought, always finish in the top 4 and get into the CL, so I'm not surprised he wants to go.

There is no point keeping him another season if he doesn't want to play.

But it would be stupidity to sell him to a rival for that CL spot. Sell him abroad, but I would tell him in no uncertain terms, that he is not joining a club that could keep them out of the champions league.

I think this season clubs have an advantage over the player, purely as it's a World Cup year. If what John W Henry is saying is true and they won't accept any offer, then Suarez either apologises and plays on for Liverpool or he stays in the reserves and plays no football at all in the lead up to Rio. It could be a costly thing to do for Liverpool, but Suarez would surely want game time before the World Cup. He'd still most probably be in the Uruguay squad, but he'd be far less dangerous than if he plays following a full season.

Agreed, selling him to Arsenal would make them even more likely to achieve 4th and Liverpool are not going to catch the Manchester clubs or Chelsea anytime soon and Spurs are a better team as well... it would guarantee that the 4th placed spot that the owners want remain elusive, it's not even whether Liverpool could replace him... its what it would do for Arsenal who finished 4th without a world class striker last season.

Apparently Spurs are also concerned about Real's ability to pay. The Spanish club apparently want to spread the cost over six years...making it about 20M Euros a year...hardly acceptable to lose your best player but not have the money to replace him.

But if Arsenal offer them good money (i.e 50M+) they have to take it surely. Liverpool are not who they used to be and would need to spend big money on 'top quality' players rather than their usual dross, to even contemplate challenging for the top 4 in the near future. Plus, Real Madrid don't seem interested.....

I'd like him to go to Arsenal - they would be a more exciting prospect with him than Liverpool are to the neutral, and we could watch him in the CL. Arsenal just aren't Arsenal without a top notch striker. They've more or less always had the league's best striker in their team as long as I can remember, until last season.

Just listening to Sky in the other room. I cannot understand Jamie Carragher unless I can lip read at the same time. What are they thinking off...he may be great, but not if no one understands him apart from Liverpudlians.
