Since 2008, Liverpool have spent £133,800,000 on this eleven... Absolutely woeful bunch of transfers and so much spent on it! Carroll Borini Downing Aquiliani Henderson Allen Dossena Coates Poulsen Konchesky Jones Not great really is it!?
Between them and Spurs, only Chelsea, City and Utd have spent more since the PL began. When you look at some of the money Pool and the Spuds have spunked up the wall to achieve basically **** all, it's staggering
The difference is we have been one of the most successful teams in Europe over the past ten years, arguably justifying the spend. Don't forget Torres had won every footballing trophy he can at a professional level both nationally and internationally. Players like that don't come cheap.
The difference is that Abramovich has been able to swallow his losses on poor players much better than Liverpool have. Liverpool have had to live with every single one of their bad buys, whereas Roman has just discarded them and bought in new players, often with a new manager too. Mutu and Veron not worked out? No problem, bring in Mourinho and let him buy Drogba and Tiago. Shevchenko and SWP flopped? Bye bye Jose, hello Anelka and Malouda. The ability to ignore bad buys and replace them immediately is the main reason you've been so successful over that period. The only flop you've really had to put up with has been Torres, and that's probably why you've just had your worst two league seasons and first CL group stage exit since Abramovich bought you.
Agree about the league bit. Torres cost us. In Europe, Shakhtar and Juve were both much better than us with or without Torres
True, but I think back in the old days (before you had to care about the potential impact of FFP), Torres wouldn't have lasted until last season. You'd have shipped him out after a year or so and bought Cavani or Falcao, regardless of the price tag, and even if Juve and Shaktar were still better you'd probably have been able to get a result in enough games to squeeze through.
All won major trophies bar Veron who was on loan, dont let the door smack you on the way out cupcake.
And last season he set a record of scoring in 7 different competitions something that will likely never been beaten.
And of course you have never had a bad european season either have you Oberon despite the vast monies you have spent on players.
Pleased to say that Torres HAS improved and might yet have a very good season for us this one coming ( which is not before time )
I have to say,I agree with this! With the help of Jose I see him getting even better! Goals apart he is linking up in many great attacking moves!
