Quite agree- Wasn't there a time when we were after Lambert, but the gas being the gas, wouldn't sell him to us?

Yes that is true- Barry Hayles was another example- It did make me think of the number of players that have swapped to the other side. Peter Beadle, Steve Phillips,David Clarkson, were a few. Akinde on loan and Aniynsah via somewhere. Outside of that, Im struggling
Highly doubt it. Southampton signed him when they were in league 1. I doubt the possibility of Lambert getting in the England team was even discussed. Helping them get to the prem I suspect they got a bit of money but cant see anything for a call up
There were a few more Danny Coles, Barrie Meyer I can remember Plus quite a few people who managed both teams
If I recall correctly GJ was interested in both Lambert and Scott Sinclair but dismissed them as not viable due to their Rovers connections, Big mistake as that was the year after the play off final defeat and those 2 signings would have been magic.

Shiny I remember when Rickie had his first belter of a season for Southampton, he was 28 years old, and I said we should fork out the money to get him at the gate to partner Nicky Maynard. And you p!ss3d all over it saying he is nowhere near Championship quality, was far too old, and you wouldn't want an ex gas at the gate. I retaliated with he was TWENTY EIGHT!!!!!!!!!! How on earth was that too old? He is easily better than most Championship strikers doing the rounds and that I couldn't care less if he was ex gas as I can see him in an England shirt. Not to be funny mate, but I told you so haha Blue few can boast all they like, they saw a cracker of a player, and didn't begrudge him furthering his career at a bigger and better club. Top professional, and the type of player I want to see Roy Hodgson pick, worked his way up, earned his place at the highest level, and is there on merit not reputation!... Then Roy fecks it all up by picking Shrek who isn't settled at his current club, in the papers every day for all the wrong reasons as usual, and hasn't played anywhere near enough pre-season football!
