Realpolitik is pragmatic. If you're wary of someone you tread carefully, those whom you're big enough to bully, you do. The U.S. try this today, we did it for centuries. This is not an endorsement, simply an observation. I'd love for the rest of the world to adopt my values, but wouldn't we all? Therein lies the problem.

It can cross boundaries and broach subjects that politicians fear to talk about for the very reasons you mention. I actually liked that part in a perverse way. As much as I (like Fry) detest everything about Camerons politics and what his party stands for I'll always have a (grudging) respect for the way he delivered the Hillsborough apology. I suspect Fry is just trying to play a slightly political game himself....had he opened the letter with "Dear Mr Right Wing **** Cameron, I detest you and your bigoted MPs. Now just one favour if at all possible...." he might not have received a very favourable response eh
