    In the longer Player interview, he said his first words were 'are you joking?' but he says he didn't think Mauricio understood him. Obviously easier to understand scouse in person than over the phone.

    Great really. The man who has been the talisman since his £1m purchase from Bristol Rovers in League One.

    My missus is made up over this news. She is a massive Ricky Lambert fan.

    I think he should have had a go last season against the ROI and Brazil.

    I've been out all day and have just got in to be told the news. This guy has got no more than he deserved a long time ago. A really great man reflected in all the positive comments he has received from professionals at all levels in the game.

    I've been singing England's goal machine in my head all day.

    Im still absolutely buzzing! He has dragged us from the depths of league one all the way up to the prem... And now he has finally been recognised as a class act by someone other than us saints fans!
