In the longer Player interview, he said his first words were 'are you joking?' but he says he didn't think Mauricio understood him. Obviously easier to understand scouse in person than over the phone.
Nigel Adkins "You just told me now; I'm absolutely ecstatic for him because he's worked ever so hard"
Great really. The man who has been the talisman since his £1m purchase from Bristol Rovers in League One. What a statement of intent that was, he's been worth every penny. Credit to Alan Pardew.
All the managers like Ricky...because he is a consummate professional, no trouble and they have more in common with him than they have with one of the youngsters.
Roy Hodgson has said he 'had no hesitation' in selecting Southampton striker Rickie Lambert for England duty ahead of the friendly against Scotland next week.
My missus is made up over this news. She is a massive Ricky Lambert fan. I think he should have had a go last season against the ROI and Brazil. Well overdue his call up imo.

Fantastic news! I was gobsmacked when i saw this breaking news pop up whilst watching tv in the pub! Homestly cant believe it, cant wait for the match now
I've been out all day and have just got in to be told the news. This guy has got no more than he deserved a long time ago. A really great man reflected in all the positive comments he has received from professionals at all levels in the game. I have not felt so happy for anyone in a long time.
I've been singing England's goal machine in my head all day. Im still absolutely buzzing! He has dragged us from the depths of league one all the way up to the prem... And now he has finally been recognised as a class act by someone other than us saints fans! A true pro, a nice guy and and an incredible player. An absolute credit to the club and now to the country
I wonder if this will boost the crowd for Saturday? People paying not to watch the match, but to cheer for Lambert
