Firstly, that wasn't his assertion mate, he was saying that it was the fans idolising players like Suarez & creating 'superstars' within a team, that was to blame for his behaviour, which is total tripe.
I made the connection with the cash element, not Barnes & whilst yes, ultimately football wouldn't exist without the fans handing over their money is some, way, shape or form, there's a massive leap from analysing the roots of professional football, to then blaming the consumer for creating the behaviour of the beast.
The consumer is the victim not the perpetrator in football in general. Its the supporter that pays over the odds, has daft KO times to contend with, exorbitant TV subscriptions etc etc. The victim ultimately feeds the beast financially, but they didn't create it nor it's behavioural traits.
In any case, not every pro behaves like a twat, in some way Barnes was looking to deflect the issue onto the broader spectrum of the game (successfully if this thread is an indicator), rather than focus on the twat in question. A twat, who let's not forget, Mr Barnes fiercely defended on more than one occasion, so maybe he had his own face saving agenda when he went on air this morning...................
