Hello there, I'm afraid I'm peddling stuff, well, a book. My new one has a chapter on Watford, town and team. It's a mix of travel writing, social history and football history. It's called [*hides before announcing title on Watford forum*] 'Hatters, Railwaymen and Knitters: Travels through England's Football Provinces', and is published by Bloomsbury. http://danielgraywriter.com/hatters-railwaymen-and-knitters/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hatters-Railwaymen-Knitters-England%C2%92s-Provinces/dp/1408834367 Cheers and best for this season, Dan.
Would not think it will be too popular with "that" name in the title - unless you can confirm it is about Stockport and not them?
I know, I know. I can't lie, it's the 'wrong' Hatters from your point of view...I had no choice where I went. I am happy to come back to Watford and shred the offending pages. Mind, some of you might just find my Kenilworth Road Incident amusing.
Hornets, Railwaymen and Knitters had a much better ring to it - especially as we are actually IN the league.
Fair point, though the reason for those three nicknames is that they reflect ex-industries that marked the towns - a big theme in the non-football parts of the book. I suppose we could've used Brewers.
We were the Brewers when we played in Blue - but that was back in the 50's. Hornets are very industrious
Enjoyed researching the town's history - printers, brewers covered in the book, as is Dr Tibbles' Cocoa Factory! Thought the museum was good, too.
Yeah, hadn't realised until I started researching the club - really interesting history. Enjoyed properly examining the Taylor years too. Hopefully I've done the great man some justice, though I'll hear about it on here if not... Best for the new season.
Obviously this was discussed before I joined but are you famous Theo? Just getting to book 3 sounds encouraging enough given a couple of friends I have that have tried and so far sadly not got anywhere.
Not famous, ghost, I'm glad to say...but 'The Glint of silver' and 'The Wide Embrace' are both available as paperbacks or Kindle texts on Amazon. The Morning Gift' is still a work in progress.
