absolutely delighted for Sir Rickie, and thoroughly deserved. He has been, and will continue to be a saints legend. His work rate and commitment to the club has been second to none. I just hope that Roy actually gives him a chance to perform on the big stage, and doesnt persist with the usual suspects. Leave Rooney on the bench, as practice for next season at man U!
I bet that until recently he had scarcely given it a thought. You rarely get called up from the lower leagues, especially at his age. His hopes must have got up last season though. Hodgson just said of Ricky's call up that two people who might have got called up ahead of him were unavailable...that's right, Roy, gee up your players confidence
We won League One, too, according to most managers To be fair, we were at the top for pretty much all of the season in the Championship, so easy mistake to make
On their England omissions: Rickie Lambert: "I've just got to prove that I'm good enough." Grant Holt: "I gave up on that. It's ridiculous."
This is why he got there, Fran said above that she thought Rickie would be content with a 5 min run-out. I don't think he will, and that's why he managed to adapt to each League as he reached it. Somewhere back down the line he discovered his self-confidence and he really backs himself at each opportunity now. He'll really want to turn some heads if he gets the chance to prove himself.
So, he only has to grace the Champions League with us in 2014-2015 and he'll have played at every senior level.....
Was having a thoroughly miserable week but this has put a bigger smile on my face than a new signing or any of our wins last year. Just need to prepare myself not to become suicidal when he barely features in the game.
Great news for the big man and for all Saints fans. This guy really is a Saints legend and I really hope he gets some game time. I've lots of 'of the pitch' things about Rickie, all of them have been good, total respect to him for what he has achieved. What a wonderful roll model to the youngsters at the club?
just thought i'd pop over to say congrats to rickie (i'm sure he reads this ) for his call up. a year too late but better late than never i suppose! should give hope to other players who don't happen to play for man united or liverpool
Excellent news. Very pleased for the man, it's overdue and well deserved. On a Saints front, this may help lift our profile a little more and attract the next level of players to sign for us.
Began to think I'd never see the day. Roy obviously ran out of excuses. Really pleased for Rickie. Now let's see him get some proper time on the pitch.
Hang on, who are we playing three days later? And who did Roy used to manage? He'll get 96 minutes in a 9-0-1 formation.
I've just spent the best part of an hour putting together an article on Lambert's career. It was actually quite enjoyable to write.
