It would certainly be interesting to see our reaction if he stayed, scored 30 goals and we finished above the Gooners. Still think he'll leave, but you can't be sure. I stopped worrying about this some time ago- I'm enjoying watching it as a sociological study. As Spock would say-
Good suggestion, go for this Gerrez especially with the Arsenal fans youve had to deal with here recently
Good choice, it does make you laugh though doesnt it? I mean hes already a multi millionaire I mean how much money can these players spend? ffs
I remembered the point that Talk Sport said; why offer the large pot of money to Suarez in an attempt to win things when they could have given RvP the money instead...?
This. It amazes me how fans can be so forgiving even when they are being taken for a ride or despised by player and/or club. It cannot be right that the impression is given that a player is essential to a club's welfare. The way Suarez has been defended for his many misdemeanours could be put down to a club rallying round their own although some would say that it went well beyond what was reasonable and was too soft with him. Suarez in his own mind instead of being grateful to his club for defending him thought that this must show that he is ESSENTIAL to his club and that no one can touch him. The fans are given the impression that he is as big as the club itself. Also Gerrard was very misguided in stating so publicly that the season rests with Suarez when there is so much uncertainty about his presence at the club. Again the fans are given the subtle and not so subtle hint that everything should be done to keep Suarez sweet. They would even cheer him when they know he doesn't want to play for the club So I am afraid the club, the players (Gerrard ) and the fans must take SOME responsibility for the disdain he holds the club in.
Tobes - you say fans worship the players, that picking out of an individual is exploited by - whoever, how can you then not apportion some of the blame on the fans?
The Reds boss is unhappy with the attitude shown by the Uruguay international - who seems intent on forcing a move to Arsenal - in recent weeks and has been told to train on his own. Rodgers rejected Suarez's claim he had reneged on an agreement last summer which would allow the player to leave for a Champions League club, saying interviews given by the 26-year-old suggesting as much showed "total disrespect" to the club. However, Suarez remains determined to find a way out of Anfield and admits even captain Steven Gerrard's pleas for him to stay cannot offset the lure of the Champions League, while also reiterating he would jump at the chance to go to Real Madrid. "I'm still defending the Liverpool shirt and I will do so until the last minute," Suarez, who was left at home for Wednesday night's friendly against Valerenga in Norway because of injury and is unlikely to feature against Celtic in Dublin on Saturday, told Spanish newspaper Marca. "My aim is to reach an agreement with the club in a friendly manner and I hope the clause we agreed a year ago is fulfilled. Up to now, it hasn't been. "It's not that I want to or am desperate to leave, but I like things to be clear and a year ago I made my position to the club clear. "Gerrard has a lot of history with Liverpool and his words are very important but everyone should understand that I need to play the Champions League to keep growing as a footballer. "Now I have the chance, I want to take it. "A Champions League team (Arsenal) is making a big effort to get me and one always wants to be where they feel comfortable. "There were a lot of rumours (about Real) that were different to reality: Madrid never called me personally or Liverpool to try and negotiate. "Every player aspires to reach the top and Real Madrid is among the most important clubs in the world. It would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid." http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-a-total-disrespect-to-liverpool-8752200.html
So you're saying you have no control as a fan Tobes? Wouldn't have thought that of you. You're saying (your arguments) that although football is no longer about the football and purely about money, that club hierarchies don't care about fans, players don't care about fans, that the modern day club doesn't participate or include their local community and instead panders to a global market of TV companies and product placement? Then what exactly are you "supporting" today: a memory? You can talk about the good old days all you want but that according to you no longer exists as a football club. So in effect when you say you're a supporter you're really a class reunion attendee? Or do you think that as supporters we can do something about it, by, as I suggested being selective buyers. I mean if the thing you support no longer holds any element (other than displaying a primary colour) you have 3 choices; walk away with your memories of what it was; embrace the gaudy commercialism in all its last days of the Roman Empire, giving up you're right to complain or start exerting pressure in the most effective way: don't buy merchandise, don't buy sky, don't buy a ticket until the money falls away and the club returns to a small local football event. I mean if we don't express our principles as fans and customers where it matters then do we actually hold those principles? And if not then what are we whining about?
wheres the source for this? suarez is definitely leaving. br pretty much said so in the bbc article that says he is training by himself
