Sky are saying that Harry's been in touch with us about Defoe. Dunno how i feel about that. i know Defoe divides opinion, but I always feel he's got something to offer and he actually gives a ****. He always tries and has a brilliant attitude. I'd like to see him retire with us, personally. I think it could be a massive risk and i think a replacement of his quality would cost us a fortune with the prices currently being paid for strikers. I'd much rather Ade was moved on.
Same as you really. Defoe isn't really good enough to be a starter in a top four side but he's OK on the bench. I'd keep him alongside Soldado and Adebayor and if we get another striker would probably prefer Ade to go
Absolutely. There is no way we should sell Defoe. As I have said before we need to keep Defoe and Adebayor. Who knows how good Soldado is going to be? It will be nice to go into a season with 3 strikers for once rather than just the one!
Defoe just deserves to see out his career with us, IMO. The amount of ups and downs he's had, but stayed loyal deserves some respect, IMO. I'm not sure of the exact situation when he went to Portsmouth, but he seemed to jump at the chance to come back. He's supposed to be a really nice bloke too. the Club needs characters like that.
Completely agree Roo. We need people who seem to love the club like Defoe and Dawson. While they may not now both be in our strongest 11 they are very good squad players to have. You wont get much better players for a club like ours who would be happy to be at the club perhaps not starting every match. Any more transfer goss Roo? I am a whore for this kind of info!
Looks like what he's been advertised as, from that. Holding player who's comfortable on the ball and likes to get forward. In other French related news, Laurent Blanc has decided to piss off the Geordies by saying the following about Yohan Kebab: 'He is a very good player, I have not changed my mind. I read that Tottenham are also interested. 'I hope he will be at a big club come September.' Ouch.
Ouch indeed PnP! I am pleased we are still signing players (unlike the other team down the road) but I sort of think this isn't an area we need to strengthen although in Levy and Baldy I trust!
the only thing is, its not really the Spurs way to keep hold of a player til they are worthless, so the defoe stuff could have some legs
Rumours suggest that Parker's off to either West Ham, Fulham or QPR and Huddlestone's also leaving, either to join Cardiff or Fulham. So Fulham want a midfielder, apparently.
Completely agree. Selling Defoe is a crazy idea. He's proven premiership goalscorer. O.k. He most likely won't be first choice anymore, I expect he knows that. What a sub to have coming off your bench though - and, as has been said, he works his gonads off.
Nothing new mate. Just the Capoue stuff, and supposed interest in Willian. - which was inevitable the minute the Anzhi stories came out. Apparently we've turned our attention to Eriksen again, and a deal could be close for Coentrao. - That's all I've manage to find. it's probably all rumours and most of it everyone knows by now anyway.
Couldn't agree more. Even for young ones coming through he's a great example and he scores some very important goals (Man City last season). The analogy with Dawson is fair in terms of being the kind of players you want in a squad.
Sell Defoe or Ade? A no brainer! If we do sell Defoe, I will seriously question AVBs (sanity|judgement|abilities|intelligence|methods|vision)*! *Delete as appropriate
I don't see the point in selling Defoe I must be honest. Great guy, a better sub than we could acquire otherwise. I'd like to see him retire here
HI SG - As you say you talk about the squad and rotation. Also I have to apologise that I get too grumpy over this 'First XI' biz, but it just gets to me Our 'first XI' will be the team that plays Palace, as I assume that AVB will want his best available team out. Now I can live with people saying 'no, no JV is in our 'first XI', even if he misses out v Palace', providing we know he's back for Swansea. But long-term injured players are not in the 'first XI' until they come back and prove they're at that level. Also how many people posting their 'first XI' in June or early July had Soldado in it? How many had Capoue in it? How many put Capoue in yesterday, but are now taking him out again? As you say it's a squad game. For many people the aim for Spurs is to win a trophy and finish top 4, you don't do that these days with a 'first XI', indeed given our injury record, we need a 'first XXII', minimum I completely agree re winning trophies, I went abslutely mental when we won the Lge Cup v Chelsea. That fantastic run we had, winning at City, smashing Arsenal 6-2, then doing Chelsea from a goal down, was one of our greatest-ever Cup runs, and I absolutely loved it. Like you, winning the EL would mean an amazing amount to me. I'd rather win it than the FA Cup TBH, though either would do. Fascintaing Euro stat BTW, I'll take your word for it. Here's one for you, the last time we won a trophy and finished top 4 was 31 years ago (1982) - That's how hard it will be to do that this season. IF we do, my praise for ENIC will be tumultuous, vociferous and downright humongous
That's saved a lot of pants getting jizzed in from the more excitable members on other forums I dare say he was in quite a few of our 'first XIs'.
