That would be the least of Colchester's worries after getting turned over 5-1 at home to Posh last night

as embarrassing as that was to everyone, that's long been put to the back of our minds guru thanks to a decent end to last season and a promising summer.

last night, however, was, well, last night!!! surely you must expect a bit of light ribbing?

still early days of course and seasons aren't decided on a couple of games but i do wonder if my initial shout that you don't have a particularly good side on paper is beginning to look a little more likely to be true...? <whistle>

That was so lat season, do keep up dear. What is it with 1p5witch fans living in the past <laugh>

The funny part is how any and all binners I have come accross have spouted on about how Mick is the second coming, and how he has assembled such an awesome squad that will surely challenge for the playoffs this season...................only to lose their first league game and get dumped out of the League Cup in the first round to the might Stevenage. :cheesy:

let's get this straight: mick mccarthy is a very good championship manager. ipswich fans are quite right to have ultimate faith in him because at that level he's about as good as they come. the problem is, he's working on a budget that most league one teams can better. he's good, he's not a miracle worker. he'll keep them above water and probably improve them in terms of making them difficult to beat and organised, but you do wonder if he'll be off if one of the premier league strugglers sack their manager or the irish come calling.

Yes indeed it is the same old chesnut, buy loads of players in the summer and the fans start convincing themselves that they are going to be so much better than what they had before.

Then before you know it you have lost your first league match and been dumped out of the cup by Stevenage, the realisation sets in that actually the players you have bought may not be as good as you think......

Reminds me a bit of when we plummed for foreigners when we got up last time, expecting them to be great and most of them turned out to be total dross.

Fingers crossed our signings are actually decent this time around. Must say they do look the part so far and also look better than what we had last season.

Yep, hopefully it won't be us expressing similar sentiments after the first couple of games!

really? Oh well my bad! <laugh>

In regards to the result, rather have whatever weaknesses exposed now than later on. from the reports the replacement keeper had a blinder in the second half, which sometimes happen in cup games.

so far this season we have had 1 reasonable performance and 1 below par performance, nowhere near alarm bells ringing stage, a few niggling injuries causing havoc with our left side. all in all still feeling positive!

<yikes> Christ, let's just keep our fingers crossed that Fer, RvW, and Olsson are not this season's Svensson, Helveg and Mattais Jonson!

Svensson wasn't too bad. Jonson was a bit hit and miss, and the less said about Helveg the better!

We've had Dutch flair players before, of course, so this is really no departure.

I give you Fernando Albert Derveld <yikes>

I remember the day we signed Helveg from AC Milan and I almost had a tear in my eye, so excited and overwhelmed was I that we were able to attract top international players of his pedigree to Carra Rud. "This is it" I thought, "we're back amongst the big boys again!"

Just a shame he was absolutely **** when he got here and the season went down the pan :( No false dawns this time however, this time we mean business!!

I remember the day we signed that immobile lump from Port Vale known as Darren Beckford for £925,000 and I had tears streaming down my face for months afterwards. In fact, I gotta go......... I'm all welling up again <wah> <laugh>
