Toulouse chairman says Etienne Capoue is on his way to Tottenham.

    Good signing.

I can't agree with large parts of this post. El Hamdaoui was hardly a laughing stock in the Eredivise, tore it up with Alkmaar and did well a Ajax before the De Boer debacle. At Fiorentina he's been pretty woeful, so bad at times that we opted to play without a recognised striker for a few games when Jovetic was injured last year. Dos was pretty bad as well, albeit I don't think Wolsburg is a great place for players looking to settle. I wasn't convinced by what I saw of De Jong when he was fit for Borussia, but I'll wait until after this season before properly judging him.

In your defence though I think there's little doubt that Bony and probably Van Wolswinkel too will make an impact in the Premier League. PTF has a point though, the Eredivisie does seem hit and miss in terms of players showing their abilities. You get some absolute quality from there, no doubt, but then the likes of Johnny Heitinga and Urby Emanuelson have been found out since moving abroad. Even Huntelaar abroad before going to Schalke.

Spurs really are going for it this year. Paulinho and Chadli as well, I think this year could be the year they overtake Arsenal, regardless of what happens with Bale.

I think this could be the first year all three who came up go back down again. I know people say that EVERY year, but it might be worth a bet. Though, with Stoke still in the league you never know, they could run them close.

El Hamdaiou was already under scrutiny at AZ Alkmaar, his mentality was off and he was extremely selfish. Louis van Gaal was able to cope with it but at Ajax, when Martin Jol was sacked, Frank de Boer didn't have it. He told El Hamdaoui to be more of a team player and stop his stardom antics. Which El Hamdaoui refused. Yes his technique was brilliant, he scored some stunning goals. But his attitude and mentality caused him to be ridiculed in the media.

Huntelaars move to Real Madrid was plainly stupid, everybody will recognize that. He had to compete with Ruud van Nistelrooij, Raúl and Christiano Ronaldo. And then he went to AC Milan which was even more ridiculous at the time with Pato and Inzaghi at the club. He still played 30 games but Italian football did not suit his style. The Bundesliga was always his place to be, although I can see him play at an EPL club.

And Johnny Heitinga didn't exactly do bad at Everton. He played there for 3 years and last year he got into a fight with the club and Moyes over his contract. Emanuelson made the same mistake as Huntelaar. Problem was that he only had 6 months left on his contract at Ajax and still wanted to bring in some money to the club instead of walking out on a free transfer. AC Milan was the only club that offered money and Ajax took it. The mistake he made was not signing an extension and agreeing to the deal.

Bas Dost scored some crucial goals last season, the winning goal, 2-3 against Dortmund away still comes to mind. He did okay, won't say he had a good or great season. Just okay. De Jong went way too early, should've waited or gone to a club a bit lower on the table. But he will get his chances this season.

I haven't said it for many years, but I am saying it this year. I can't see Palace and Hull staying up, and I think Cardiff and Stoke will battle it out for the last spot.

Thanks for the considered response. Kuyt was indeed a very useful player for Liverpool, but not particularly as a goalscorer, and that is how he made his name in the Eredivisie.

Just as well Cove seems to share my scepticism about Finnbogasson then!

Wasn't he often used as a winger at Liverpool though?

Yes, after he failed to impress as a striker. His work ethic is something which, unlike his goalscoring ability, transferred extremely well to the English game, so he was useful on the wing in a more defensive role despite being a striker by trade.

Came across this tonight, an interview with Jaidi and Henrik Pedersen: http://92webzine.com/2013/08/07/int...ons-european-days-and-discuss-the-new-season/

Pedersen describes how Sam Allardyce gave him the lowest point of his career by not being a man of his word.

What are all the Newcastle fans getting angsty on my Twitter about? Something about Pardew saying we have more financial clout than Newcastle?

Is this the longest and most tedious transfer window EVER?
My view is that we have made our moves and now have to simply wait. If no other bigger club comes in for our main targets we are likely to sign up these guys as they appear to want to come to the EPL but think they too good for a small up and coming club like ours. If the big boys don't wish to compete then their agents are going to have to eat humble pie and accept our offer.
This is going down to 11pm on transfer window close day
    Ahhhhhhh!

Right I am boarding a flight now, and when I land I hope to see Leandro Damaio has signed.

Anything less will show we are no bigger than Wigan ;)

Where's that? All he's saying as far as I can see is that we were happy to loan Sharp but now we want a permanent transfer.

A quote that was copied up onto Saintsweb yesterday had him down as saying our lack of transfer activity was down to him.

Have to say that the Newcastle fans on there come over as more sane than some on SaintsWeb. They've managed a long discussion without slagging off Saints and without turning on each other in a childish manner. One fact I plucked from that is that Remy is injured...when did that happen or was he crocked when they got him?
