From CAFC twitter feed- was curious as to why there was an image of Paul Hart on our site earlier.....

Paul Hart has joined the Addicks as academy director and Jeff Vetere's return to Charlton as technical director has been confirmed (TH)

Steve Avory remains as academy manager, while former chief scout Phil Chapple becomes scouting co-ordinator

Keith Peacock, previously technical director, becomes football advisor (TH)

have seen other forums mentioning Harts history of leading clubs to relegation

    :emoticon-0118-yawn:

waste of time even discussing this as he is just in charge of the youth side

If he does half as well with us as he did at leeds I'll be happy
(Kelly, Harte, Robinson, Woodgate, Smith, Kewell to name but a few)

His success at ''yoof'' level is incredible. Didn't he then go on to develop the likes of Dawson and a certain Andy Reid at Notts Forest?

Apparently we have also appointed/are in the process of appointing seven regional scouts to cover the whole of the UK. Seems like an excellent piece of news to be honest. Would suggest that the board are serious about recruiting British talent and the appointment of Hart is a good one. Expect he's on a decent whack aswell.
Best news of the pre season so far for me.

Totally agree Sir John, I couldn't help feeling excited when reading the article on the OS. Doing scouting abroad as well which could be interesting. Lets hope its money well spent.

He was a fantastic academy director at Leeds, a real kick in the teeth that we appointed Chris Sulley when he was on the market.

It shows that they are here for the long haul if they are wanting to put a lot of focus on the youth. Interesting to note that a part of Hart's role is to ensure we are able to stick to the strict Premier League(key point) guidelines.

It also says to me that this season has to be a success. I can't realistically see such a structure being sustainable if we do not get promoted. There is huge pressure on Powell and his staff to get us up this year. If we do get promoted then we will be in a strong position to be ok in the Championship. If not...well I don't think it bears thinking about.

this is great news, this is what Paul Hart does some people are born to be coaches and some are born to be managers and Hart is an excellent coach

it also gives the board a caretaker manager if they did dispense with Chris Powell anytime

agree with the other posters its a great sign of intent but can't be sustained at League One

This is slowly leaning towards Powell being a coach, with calm heads around him to help with recruitment. I think this is only a good thing. To have paul hart in this kind of capacity is astounding, he could have taken a managerial or assistant post I have no doubt. Very good.

    Excellent piece of news.

There seems to be a lot of deep thinking and steady forward planning going on at the moment - but you're dead right Martinho and Sir John, this is a plan with promotion firmly in mind - agreed that the pressure on CP, even at this early stage must be immense. Let's hope he's got the stones for this one, or it could go horribly pear-shaped.

But I said in an earlier post that we need to set our stall out early. I meant more on the playing side, but IMO this also sends a clear message that we mean business.

Paul Hart is a superb youth coach, we have some very good players in the U18's and U16's and this can only help with their development. FHB will be well chuffed :)

Look out for a kid we got from West Ham and played in our U16's last season. I am told he could be the real deal <ok>

Hart and Howard Wilkinson worked together to develop a European-quality youth setup at Leeds United which produced the homegrown core of a team which - if run properly - would have been dominant in English football. He's 58 years old, I doubt he's planning to retire any time soon and if he keeps up his track record, he'll probably be a more important signing for Charlton than any player you bring in over the summer.

I can't see any negatives to his appointment. He is obviously well regarded throughout football and although his record at management level is not the greatest, his history at youth level is excellent. Secondly, it is not necessarily the appointment of Hart per se it is the structual reorganisation that has been put in place that suggests, on face value, that the board are not just throwing their money at new players but at the infrastructure of the whole club. Of course the proof of the pudding and all that, but surely a positive step that very few of us saw coming.

Danny mills was a product of norwich's youth system....

Cold hard facts, Paul hart is nationally regarded as a fantastic coach/youth coach, who produced a wealth of talent at Leeds and again made a impact at notts forest. We have employed him in his strongest role, so what's the problem?

no problem with it at all. its just that the board have not really said too much about how much they plan on investing or made massive signings yet. then with players like racon, semedo and dailly all being wanted to have been kept on (but not so yet), we're trying to haggle small amounts of money out of them. and, what with our youth setup already being pretty good, it may not be such a good idea to employ someone who'll add a little in the short and more in the long term, when money's so tight. at this stage, and after last season, i'd rather all efforts be focused on the first team; especially as thats what i pay to go and see.

no issues with investing in the youth, would just rather us be at a higher level first so that when we do find a good'an, they dont leg it like jenkinson has done after 5 games cos they get a better offer.
