the centre back situation will be sorted... chill! it's the most blatant signing needed at the moment, but it doesn't stop us from striking other deals with our other targets does it? Sandro, Parker, Livermore, Hudd, Holtby, Sigurdsson, Carroll, Paulinho, Dembele Parker will be gone Livermore - likely to leave Hudd - likely to leave Holtby - no idea what to expect or whether he's cut out for it Sig - improved, but much to be desired. Carroll - promising but young paulinho - brand new, looks good. Dembele - decent There might be lots of midfielders there WY, but there's question marks over a fair few of them!
I wished I had your faith! I agree that it's obviously blatant we need more CBs but time is running out and who's to say that the targets Baldy is concentrating on will actually join Spurs. Some may fall through leaving Spurs to scramble around on transfer deadline day picking up Joe Blogg off the street for £20m...
On Twitter (from the boss of Goal.com, so caveats needed) Sam Lyon ‏@sampatricklyon 5m Toulouse's president Olivier Sadron has told RMC Sport in France that Etienne Capoue will sign for Tottenham
He's been linked with us on and off for ages. That price sounds like a good deal, as he was being touted around for £15m+ in January. Plus, as he can play either in central midfield or as a centre back he'll be a useful option - which also pretty much says that Huddlestone and Livermore are on their way.
We supposedly made a late bid in January (as did Arsenal), so if he does sign that means we're actually signing players we've been watching for some time rather than watch them sign for one of our rivals.
Really shows we're investing in the squad if we buy him, but seems a step down for him; bench isnt what hed be hoping for! But to make this worthwhile we must sell hudd and Parker and maybe Livermore or there won't be enough game time to keep earners happy.
see, this is where i think things are changing. It'll be hard to define "the subs bench", as we'll be playing 2 games a week a lot of the time and the squad will be on rotation. I don't think there'll be a first XI + the rest next year. It could be hard to call who's going to play from game to game, IMO.
Looks like Spurs have secured the services of French central defender/midfielder Ãtienne Capoue for around EURO 8m from Toulouse. If true, he represents a big step-up from Steven Caulker, who Spurs recently sold to Cardiff City for GBP 9m.
When a new defender comes in, all this panic amongst you lot will be gone in seconds! We're getting on with our business early. That's why I'm confident. Last year I'd have been a wreck!!
I know I posted the capoue stuff (so I'm not one to talk), but it could be rubbish. We've been here before. I haven't managed to find a decent link yet. I went on the RMC sport website and couldn't find anything or any of these supposed quoted from the president of Toulouse either.
Does Capoue play centre back often then? I know Sandro isn't quite ready yet and will pick up injuries but I wouldn't have thought another centre mid was high up on our priorities, Paulinho can play deeper if needed and I was hoping Holtby would get more game time this season. I don't want to sound like I'm moaning about having too much quality in midfield but I kind of am Even in a 433 having Capoue, Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele, Holtby, Livermore and Carroll is a bit excessive in my opinion and that's assuming Huddlestone and Parker leave. Then out wide(again assuming a 433) we have Bale, Townsend, Chadli, Lennon and Sigurdsson before we even look at the likes of Falque, Ceballos and other young players that will be looking to break into the squad over the next year or two. Compare that to our strength at fullback, or centre back, or in goal, or up front and we look a bit over stocked. It's not really complaining, I suppose but I just don't understand what we're doing!
Oh, he must be signing. Goal.com are reporting it. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...e-will-join-tottenham-says-toulouse-president
Nor do I! I agree with you. We do look overstocked in certain areas. It's just a shame that the quality isn't a bit better.
