http://www.thisishullandeastriding....tory-19624612-detail/story.html#axzz2bIZkrQVx Report in the rag that they could turn the old dry dock into an amphitheater from the success of music events in Hull...somebody said a week or two ago Hull needed a music venue although this won't solve the problem, it's always a start! Looks pretty nifty if they pulled it off
Wonderful idea. If only the people who say they will do actually come up with the money. We know what happened to the previous grand plan for the fruit market. .... and of course it would need a roof !
So to create something new, this Council has to knock something old down? Why didn't they leave the lights on over 'Ull during the war and completely flatten the City so we could start again? How is this going to benefit 'Ull? The A63 is still there, so how are people going to safely reach this wonderous Ampitheatre? What is the point?
The Ruscadors Pub is an eyesore and the buildings they're knocking down are already falling down(it's not the Fruit Market buildings) and there's a bridge directly to it from The Deep, which attracts massive numbers, there's also the proposed land-bridge over the A63, so people can get there directly from the city centre. The marina and fruit market area are central Hull's biggest asset, any attempt to utilise that asset should be applauded.
do keep up. castle street is going to be changed and there'll be three bridges across it to ease access to the fruit market area. as to what is the point, why not?
isn't the whole point of an amphitheatre that it doesn't have a roof and is designed so that sound travels where it's wanted and not where it isn't wanted? at least we're in one of the drier parts of the country, even if we might need to wrap up warm to use the place.
When Hull was after getting one of the 'Super Casinos', the plan was to clear out Humber Street Fruit Market and site the casino and hotels, etc. there. (So much for 'City of Culture'......) Now, at least, there stands a better chance of having an area which is more welcoming to far more people. But it is culture-come-lately.
Sounds a great idea, would be good if it comes to fruition. Pity Otis Redding is not still with us, he could do the first gig and sing "The dock of the bay"
it'd be somewhere nicer to put the next motown lej that comes to town, maybe in a future freedom fest. as long as there are some left, of course.
We discussed this on a thread a couple of weeks ago already. If I was being kind, I'd say The Fail were saving this story for the post humber street sesh reporting. But I suspect they've only just found out about it.
On the Monorail mention, the company I worked for (TNT) built and initially ran the Sydney Monorail. Against massive public opposition throughout the 2 years of its construction it made its first inner city run in 1988 and lasted 25 years before being finally closed a few weeks ago. I organised the inaugural run and was invited by the NSW government to be on its last run which I declined. We ran it for 10 years before selling it on and for those 10 years myself and my husband were able to travel free. We lived in Sydney at the time and used it extensively.
I read almost exactly the same artical about the digital centre with outside space for public and office staff a few weeks ago, it's just been rehashed because of the sesh
I can confirm that consistent with rumours and nitter natter heard all over this thread that yes, Ruscadors smells of piss. Someone had to say it.
