Sounds like he was just too keen to impress and got a bit over zealous, because he looked useful against Dresden.
Was reading an article this morning that said he doesn't try to dispossess players, but just tackles on the ground. It went on to say that last season he had a 94% success rate, so it could just him being trying too hard to impress. Having said that, with the way refereeing is going, even if he got the ball 100% in the Premier League he'd probably average a yellow card a match. Especially with the cheating sacks of **** we'll come up against.
We have all been saying we need a hard case in midfield to drive the team on. Sounds like he could be perfect for the role and I'm sure when he isn't playing for a contract he will be a lot more controlled in his aggression. 4 yellows in 44 games is not bad for Ligue 1, especially compared to someone like Meyler.
I think the fact that he kept fouling the other team might impress Bruce a little; like you said, we need a hardman who doesn't fanny about and gets stuck in. If he gets a booking along the way then fair enough, but it sounds like he also has great ball playing skills so he could keep things running in the centre.
...and if he continually gives free kicks away in the premier league, with the quality of dead ball specialists we will be facing, it could result in us conceding more goals?
Well it depends on your outlook. I'd have more faith in McGregor saving a free kick than I would having a 3 v 2 attack bearing down on us from open play.
There will be times where we will face situations like that where a player will take a yellow for the team. But continually fouling and giving away free kicks because he goes to ground too much will result in, at the very least, increased pressure on our goal, if not goals being conceded
After reading a sqwawka article on him I would definitely take him, if Brucey can help him and alter his game slightly then could be a real gem. We need someone who will just pass it to someone else when on the ball but off the ball work hard and shut down non stop.
A one man wrecking ball without a doubt. Harder than Ian Ashbee in the tackle. The game changed when he went off as the germans did not fancy him at all. My biggest worry is that he would get too many yellow and Red cards in the PL. Shame as i like a tank in midfield.
You make a very good and valid point. If the money is right for Hull City i would take a gamble with him. Steve Agnew could without a doubt work on his "rough points" shall we say.
He is but....That is the point the cards he will get. The likes of Mike Dean - Martin Atkinson - Chris Foy to name but 3 will have the red card out faster than OLM gets his wallet out. Sadly Sherman only has one leg now. He got it blown off.
