Are Madrid really going to let us talk to Coentrao for any reasonable fee given our stance on Bale? I sincerely doubt it.

To me, defending starts at the front - it's about organisation. There is no doubt that we have, and have had for some years, defensive deficiencies - we continually give away stupid last minute goals, etc.

Is it personnel?, a lack of proper defensive organisation?, or a combination of both? I suspect the latter. Whichever way, if we are to achieve more than we are currently doing, it's a problem that must be solved.

Sorry!

Apparently Bernard would prefer a move to arsenal or us. Who knows, maybe this'll be a last minute deal from levy?

Eriksen, Alderwiereld, Coentrao and Lamela please.

I don't actually know anything about lamela, but everyone else says he's amazing so I'm jumping on the bandwagon now!! <laugh>

Surely we could say "forget about the money you owe us for Modric?"

Can't we start a media campaign in the UK papers about Coentrao not being happy at RM and that he is upset that RM are over valuing him? Surely they want to help us attract the best players to the premiership.....

we have been a soft touch for the last 20 years at least, it doesn't matter how great our options are or if we're struggling, overall we have always been soft (apart from spurf). so yes there's more then one reason why, but last season we had Sandro and before that when was our last decent DM? David howells ;)

Plus one of the reasons we concede silly goals is because we can't keep the ball and a lot of our defensive issues start from midfield.

edit:sorry Scott Parker for forgetting you.

So the Spurs twitter account changed its heading earlier and removed Bale's pic (I saw there were posts this morning on here about it) - anyway I think the poor person manning the twitter feed is sick and tired of question after question because this has just gone on there:

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial 4m
Changing our Twitter background seems to have created a bit of a frenzy. With Clint leaving the Club, it was time for an image change #THFC

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial 2m
Gareth was on that background too. Did anyone notice? We change our social media backgrounds regularly and feature all players. #THFC

How is that an incentive? Either way they are still paying us the money - either in real cash terms or in terms of Coentrao's value.

The only way they would accept that offer is if it benefited them financially, and in that case by default it would be detrimental to us financially.

Just posted this in the bill nick <ok> great minds moorph. <laugh>

You've lost me mate?

You said they wouldn't be happy about dealing with us over coentrao. I was saying that they owe us money for modric, so regardless of the bale deal, we still have ammo against them.

He hasn't spoke about Bales transfer specifically, I'm not being funny, but you are reading too much into 3 sentences cobbled together by SKY, from an article in the Evening Standard no less! they haven't even quoted the questions that prompted those answers, maybe they're in the ES piece but I haven't read it. Nobody has said you can't talk about Bale in general terms, he's said less than AVB did after Monaco, so its no drama, neither have let anything we don't know out the bag, so its no infringement of the :emoticon-0127-lipss Not sure why you feel it is thats all, he's not hinting anything...you are! Just trying to point out its the media still twisting things and not to read into it too much.:)

Bale may still go, and he may stay, nobody knows, least of all SSN who can't even drum up their own article, having to fiddle with another one instead. <ok>

You've lost me too <laugh>

Say Madrid still owe us £12m for Modric and value Coentrao at £20m - I don't see what difference it makes to them whether (a) we give them £8m and cancel the Modric payments, or (b) they sell Coentrao to any other club for £20m and continue to pay us for Modric. Either way they are still £8m up. So why is the offer to "cancel the Modric payments" an incentive for them to sell us Coentrao over any standard £20m offer from another club? I dont believe it is.

I do believe that given our stance on Bale, we are probably the last club Madrid would want to sell a player to right now. The only way they're selling us Coentrao is if we do them a favour by letting them speak to Bale.

I guess it may help them get more money from the banks if they're not owing already?

We did something similar with Pompey to get knock-down prices on Defoe, Crouch and Kranjcar due to unpaid fees for Defoe, Pamarot, Davis and Pedro Mendes - although in that case it made more sense because we were never going to see the fees paid in full, especially if and when the administrators came in, so we jumped to the front of the queue for their fire sale.

That won't happen with Tinker Madrid, though, as if they're short on cash Madrid council will bung them £10m for the rights to a parking space at their training ground or something similar, whilst the rest of Spain's economy is more ruined than The Man Who Sold The World after you've heard Kurt Cobain mangle it.

Surprisingly , I do enjoy Lulu's version , with Beckenham Dave doing backing vocals.

I think I prefer Lulu's version, never heard Kurt's.

Meanwhile, for the club that sold Caulker, 'Time, he's waiting in the wings'.

11 days till we trot out at Palace (not too far from Beckenham IIRC) and still not a proper CB in sight.

'We should be on by now', etc.

If it's true coentrao wants to come... He is without doubt one of the best 5 or 6 left backs in the world and would usurp any of the premier leagues lbs as best in the league. I'd do bad things to make this happen.

As for cbs, vlad or Sakho would be my top choice. Both I suspect would be within our grasp. Then anything else levy could muster on deadline day across the team would be excellent. Halilovic is someone that would interest me, given our creative needs he could be incredible in 2 or 3 years time and for once we'd be in a position to not have to rush him into the team.

And for the love of god, sell some of the chaf. It's beginning to build up again!

we shouldn't be looking at teams and thinking '' their centre backs out of favour, could do a job for us''... I know it seems we're desperate but that type of thinking means we end up signing average players.

if we want to get anywhere, players need to be identified and scouted.

and whoever said convert Livermore to centre back, needs to stop double dosing their medication as jake is a top lad but is crap at reading the game and his tackling doesn't doesn't fill me with confidence.
