Remy is twice the player of Gomis and i'm not really sure why you are in for him.

He's on around the same level as Shola (tries hard but the talent isn't really there) and Cisse and Remy are loads better.

Also he is one of the dumbest players I've ever seen - He is offside constantly and seems to make bizarre runs. If he signs and sets the world on fire fair play but I don't think you should be too upset if it falls through <ok>

There's a stat on here somewhere backs you up. Think he was the most offside player in Europe, or something?!

I think we (well, Alan Pardew) just wants more of a battering ram option up front, and I don't know how many there are these days.

Most offside in Europe? Clearly not just a one off then!!

That's fair enough, I just think as a club you could do better than him. For instance I'd have any of Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Santon, Colo, Debuchy, Cisse & Remy at spurs. Where as Gomis I wouldnt touch with a 10 foot barge pole.

We do still seem to need someone to hold the ball up, though. You've got two angles here - either those who are out of our league, or big units. We were priced out of both Carroll and Bony - probs had a £10m ceiling - so have plumped for Gomis. I don't know many other players in the sub-£10m category who can do this specific job. We have a finisher (Cisse), a player (Remy), a talent (Campbell) and know we cannot rely on Shola as a target man so need to invest. That's why I'm not sure we'll go for Bent, as he can't really do that job.

The perfect player would have been Lukaku, but Mourinho likes him. Gomis will probably be asked to play differently at NUFC, so we may be able to negate some of his stupid tendencies.

the mooted Gomis deal stretched fairly high though didn't it?, so much as to say Carroll was a few mill more but a few years younger. Still surprised, when Carroll would obviously come to us and we're actually looking for a strong centre-forward, that we didn't even bother making an offer

To be honest, it's an archaic view anyway - makes me worry about Pardew and how often someone like Gomis will take to the field, thus bypassing our midfield....again....

There aren't that many around and in the last few years they've become increasingly ineffective. Mobility up front is far more crucial, so signing Remy was key. I mean, look at beasts like Carew and Zigic. Just didn't work, you can stand off as a CB, let them win it and double up for the knock down. Carroll's been a bit more unplayable because he's young enough to put himself about, but that takes its toll on a body, hence his injury rate. Drogba was the best at it, but players like him are few and far between. Lukaku looks to be the next big thing; Gomis took the tag of mini-Drogba about 6 years ago and never really lived up to it.

Personally I think Gomis would be a decent option to have. Fair enough I wouldn't want to count on him as your main man, but if our options were him, Cisse, Remy and Campbell then I wouldn't mind.

Sounds like he fancies but I think we already worked out that Aulas is a difficult character. Thrown in the agents and you have a mess. I think we may quickly lose interest in this ne.

Darren Bent is 29 and Bafe Gomis turned 29 today, we'd be barmy to shell out €10m for somebody who could be a regular for just one season before slowing down. If another striker comes in I would like Jackson Martinez or Mbokani.

GFN France seem to think the delays are down to the Gomis camp foot dragging in the hope of Marseille getting involved. If Marseille want him then hopefully they'll sign him quickly. Not that sold on him so I don't want to see us waste the rest of the transfer window pursuing a false hope.
