    I am surprisingly excited about this one! I think it normally barely features in my consideration

    No prizes for guessing who I'll be cheering for...

    I really think Holt has a great chance of winning a trophy. Utd are struggling with signings and the Rooney saga, there's the new manager question and pre-season isn't complete, whereas Wigan are on a roll with a strong opening league performance.

    and it's on ITV!, Wigan have got to fancy their chances, like you say United are in disarray at the moment. Go Holty!

    i shall certainly be sticking a fiver on holt to score - his record against the top clubs has been excellent

    Ha ha, I was then going to create an article all about this myself but looks like you've beaten me to it Rob! I think this is the first time I will have any interest in the Charity Shield for - well, ever really! Wigan are definitely my second team this year, I'd love Holty to bang a goal or two on Sunday.

    Looks like he's started the season in far better form than he did in any of his four years with us when it usually took him half a dozen games to get up to full speed, he looks really happy as well <cry>

    Possibly due to the fact he's nearer his family. Must be a huge relief to him to go home and see them every day and this has probably added to his air of contentment.

    I'm definitely cheering on the Latics - a mate of mine is a Warriors and Athletic season ticket holder and of course there's the Holty/Barny connection. Come on the Pie Men !

    BBC - "1253: Championship side Wigan are closing in on their 10th signing of the summer. Sunderland winger James McClean is in talks with the FA Cup winners after the Black Cats accepted an undisclosed offer for the Republic of Ireland international."

    Serious ambition shown with signing of Holt and McClean. If they can keep hold of the triple MMM's then they are my bet to win the Championship this season...
