Official "Fulham Manager Martin Jol has confirmed Queens Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt will undergo a medical at the Club with a view to a season-long loan. Speaking after Fulham’s 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with Real Betis at the Cottage on Monday night, Jol admitted the QPR man was a player he admired, having worked with him during the duo’s time at Tottenham Hotspur. Jol said: “I was too late to sign him when he went to QPR and he did ever so well there. He was over a £10m player 12 months ago and hopefully he will show his potential here.” Source FFC: http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2013/august/05/manager-reaction
Finally some good news. I, for one, like him. He's young, tough and he has talent. No, he's not a perfect fit within the system since he's in the same frame of mind as Berbs and Ruiz, but he's a very good player and I think he can be slotted in nicely, given a little work. Dembele originally wasn't originally a central midfielder, but he had the talent and willingness to adapt. I think Taraabt can adapt, too.
If Taraabt can hit the ground running and create the form he showed some 2 years ago it could be a wake up call for Ruiz.
The thing is having another skillfull creative player in midfield might give Ruiz more time and space to play better. Taarabt wouldn't be my choice, because I think he only has may be 10 good games in him during a season, he can be a passenger in other games, and defensively he is more of a liability. When you need 10 men defending he might be found wanting. This is where his arrogance that he knows better than previous managers that he won't get involved in doing his job defensively. As it's only a loan spell with no buy clause?, if he does well then we are creating a better player for QPR to take back.
I'm confused, Bandit. Are you saying that you know there is a clause, and adding the comment that Jol wouldn't be so silly as to not make sure that was the case, or are you assuming there's a clause on the basis that Jol wouldn't be so silly. I haven't seen anything anywhere, other than your comment, that states there is a clause. I hope you're right, but I'd like to know what your source for that is.
Sky are reporting that he has passed his medical. Presumably terms were agreed beforehand so ... anytime soon we should hear officially. The Club are a bit hit and miss about saying if a loan deal involves an option to buy - from memory they said it did with Riether but with Enoh it dribbled out kind of May time.
Logically, you would think there was an option to buy in the deal. Why would we cover his wages for QPR's benefit for a year, then send him back at the end of the loan period? That would make sense if we were in the Championship and QPR in the PL, but not in reality. QPR obviously want him off their wage bill, and we want to take him on with as little risk as possible.
Congrats, you have an outstanding player. Gutted to lose him. Most enjoyable player I've watched in years. Things won't always come off for him but then he's doing things other players can only dream of. Enjoy the experience and hope we get him back!
Just various 'amateurish' websites which describe the clause as being anywhere between 6-8 million. I believe there were agreed prices for Riether, Manolev and Enoh, so Jol has previous in inserting them into loan deals (Urby proved too expensive)
I think this is a very interesting signing. Taarabt is clearly a marmite player - fans of both Spurs and QPR seem to either love him or hate him and from looking at the comments above it seems he's already dividing opinion amongst Fulham fans. He's obviously a complex character - brilliant but stroppy, exciting but frustrating to watch. however Jol knows him well and must feel that a. He can bring out the best of him and b. he'll fit into the team. I'm positive about the signing although that might just be because its a signing, any signing rather than because its this specific signing. Will be interesting to see if he plays on Saturday. I would have thought a substitute appearance likely
can anyone think of a song for him? its going to be tricky, when he has a bad game you can hear it now, GET BACK TO RANGERS ADEL
My nickname for him will be ....220 Wonder if that will be his squad number For those who don't remember it's the bus he caught back at half time during the 6-0 spanking.
Taarabt Boom De Ay I'm not too young, I'm not too old Not too timid, and oh so bold Just the kind you'd like to hold Just the kind for sport I'm told Chorus: Taa-raat Boom-de-ay! (sung 220 times) I'm a blushing bud of innocence Shady says at big expense Colin says I have no sense Jol declares, I'm just immense Chorus:
Adel Taarabt is a genius with a football at his feet. It won't come off every game, that's why he has only played for QPR and now Fulham. When it happens though, you'll be left with your mouth hanging open. This will only happen three or four times a season. But when it does, you'll be glad to witness his uniqueness. His talent will be worth the season ticket price alone. Enjoy! These players only come along every thirty or forty years. Berbatov and Taarabt will be your Best and Marsh. Enjoy your season. It's going to be one of the better ones.
It's now on the offical Taarabt signs on 1 year loan http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2013/august/07/taarabt-arrives-on-loan
thank you, I am now looking forward to see adel, and see what he can do, football is about excitement for me
