Yes, they will improve with that experience from last year, but definately not to 6th. If we do, we'll definately be looking for a new manager at the end of the season!!

Given that he said the aim on Sky Sports was top 10, yeah, I think the aim is top 10.

 

Back to the discussion about whether we can achieve higher with virtually the same team (+2). I feel that the players are young and have improved and have gained experience of the PL. We finished 14th after a terrible start...I think that, given the same starting fixtures this year, Saints would do better than last season, purely on the grounds that they have moved on a bit.

 

Everton have bid for Alderwiereld apparently... Must be time for us to be linked with Liverpool lurking

 

Absolutely, we can do a bit better. Top 6 though? Either people don't realise how big a step up that is, or they're deluded as to how good Southampton are. Either way, it's laughable.

 

Him and Lovren would be a great pairing for us, imo. With teams like Everton and Liverpool sniffing we probably wouldn't get him though.

Still surprised he turned down Norwich

 

Top 6, is what was suggested.... we need a lot more improvement to achieve that!

I'd also note that every other team has the potential to say they learned last year and will improve a bit; it is the amount you improve that is key.

One reason I keep saying we need a striker/or high scoring AMC is that it is goals that keep you moving in the end.

 

I agree we need another striker...risky to start with only 2 strikers (plus Mayuka who may/may not come good). Luckily, there is another transfer window, but would rather get one in now, than have to get a panic buy in after Christmas.

 

Top 6 is too far. Not because of how good we are, but because of the quality of the opposition we would have to displace to get there. I think we were better than our position last season suggests...call it a bedding in season...would be pleased with 10/11 this season...ecstatic with 8/9.

That may be true and I am sorry for him as he earned a chance at the PL at least. However, when compo is involved no player (but an absolute idiot) would say he wants to leave.
