Bristol Rovers started 2013-14 with a defeat at Exeter when they took on Exeter City. Elliot Richards equalised City’s opening goal, but that was not sufficient as the locals won the game with a second goal ten minutes from time. The team to face Watford is plagued with injury and nine first team players could be missing. On saturday the Rovers substitutes were all teenagers. Saturdays Goalscorers Eliot Richards and Troy Deeney Watford The Manager: Gianfranco Zola "There may be some players who come in but they are still considered first team players and we will have a strong team. It is important that we go further in this competition because of the size and strength of our squad. It gives those players a chance to impress me and everybody else." The Team. Only Tommy Hoban and Nyron Nosworthy are on the long term injured list. Ikechi Anya taken from the field during saturdays win in Birmingham will also now miss the game. Troy Deeney scored the winner as Watford continued last seasons good form. The History – Cup encounters Bristol Rovers and Watford have only ever met in cup matches twice (Captain Jack has corrected me here) and both teams have one success. The most recent has seen Rovers come out on top. Marvin Sordell scored first for the visitor at two minutes and Matt Harrold equalised two minutes later. Carl Dickinson and John Eustace missed their penalties when Marvin Sordell and Adrian Mariappa scored theirs, Bristols were scored by Jo Kuffour, Adam Virgo, Wayne Brown and Mustapha Carayol. The first encounter was in the 2008-09 season and a Will Hoskins goal saw the Hornets win on their own pitch.
hi guys, gashead here just to correct your cup history part.... few years ago august 2008 you beat us in the same competition at your place 1-0. i think this is the 3rd time that we will meet in the 1st round of this cup in 5 seasons. getting boring now we got a match thread already going on over on our board as well. however it should be quiet during the game as most of use would be at the game http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/223011-The-Gas-Vs-Watford-Thread-And-Poll good luck for the season, i would say beat city but they got relegated last season so you wont be facing them i expect to get hammered tomorrow by your lot. 9 1st teamers out injured. we only managed to field 6 subs on saturday, 2 19 year olds and 4 18 year old. 7 rovers appearances between the 6 of them. not really game changers! hopefully you dont cause us more injuries!
Off to my first game of the season tonight which being a league cup 1st round tie will almost certainly be a dire affair won with an odd goal or (please no) et and pens. Of course living in Bristol at the moment and working with a bunch of gasheads means all my talk in the last 6 months of this being the start of a golden age for Watford could very quickly be turned on me! I have a nagging optimism that Watford will show their quality and win comfortably, after all even though it will largely be a different team to the one that played on saturday I would expect to see Battochio, Acuna, Pudil, Fabbrini and Ekstrand still catching up fitness wise. Sounds like Rovers have a few problems of their own too, I'm going wishful thinking over reality and predicting 4-0 Watford.
Apart from the bit on the sponsors logo, the red has gone, much to my dislike. Have a look on the official site at the shop.
Not a big surprise, but no Anya tonight - 'minor calf problem'... http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...d_need_to_progress_tonight_due_to_squad_size/ Sounds like a strong team for tonight, but then, thinking about it, can we actually field a weak team with the squad we have?
As long we better the result from 2 years ago! That was a dreadful night for us! That night we had no idea and I honestly thought we would struggle all season U' Orns Unable to attend tonight as I will be on nights Maybe get to the home game on Saturday though
What are the odds of both keepers getting injured on a match day? Must be 1,000s to 1 surely......it'll never happen!
right i'm off to the match via several pubs. setting off now should make it by 7.30pm ( its only 30 mins walk from my house.) meeting up with a couple of rovers supporters and a middlesbrough fan for a few drinks, cider i up! COYH's!!!
Good comments coming from Zola, refreshing to see a Football League manager talking up the League Cup as opposed to seeing it as a burden. I expect us to win comfortably tonight, the team we put out will be far stronger the teams we put out against Bradford last year (Beleck started!!) or Bristol Rovers two years before (Walker and Mirfin started!!) . It won't be a walkover though, I'm going for Watford by two goals.
Sat with the junior hornets behind the Watford flag you can't miss us (any regulars come and say hello)
