I'm watching the classic 'Get Carter' on ITV4 while I'm on here, and have just realised that Michael Caine is probably one of my favourite actors. It seems he has been around forever. Although I can appreciate he's not the most technically gifted of thespians ever born, he is entertaining. While I'm at it, I can't watch anything with Nicholas Cage in it. Not sure why. Who is your favourite and least favourite actors?
Bob Hoskins in 'The Long Good Friday' was superb and is my all time fave. Not too sure about 'Roger Rabbit' though
I'm watching 'Get Carter' as well, amazing how many faces you can pick out that went on to become household names such as a young Alun Armstrong. I suppose Dustin Hoffman is probably my favourite, so many memorable roles. Can't think of any I totally dislike...
I'm watching Get Carter too Nines. It really is a classic, deeply grim. Favourite? I can't make a call. As Roller says Nicholson is mesmerising, de Niro has put in too many stunning performances to count (taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas....), Ben Kingsley - who else could do Gandhi and Don from Sexy Beast? Gene Hackman is usually very good too.....Christian Bale and Tom Hardy currently... Worst is easy though Steven ****ing Seagal, though I don't know if what he does on film actually qualifies as acting, and his hairline is fascinating.
Morgan Freeman for me, there is just something about him that is so genuine. Makes every film he plays in better by just being in it. A new face on the scene and maybe the best actor I've ever seen is Christoph Waltz. Quentin Tarantino 'discovered' him and casted him for the Inglorious Basterds movie in 2009. Before that he had mainly stared in German TV movies and mini-series. Recently stared in another Tarantino masterclass, Django Unchained. Masters German, English, French and Italian fluently. And has won every award on the globe for those roles. 2013 Won an Oscar, Bafta, Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for: Django Unchained (2012). 2010 Won Best Actor at Cannes, and an Oscar, Bafta, Golden Globe and for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for: Inglourious Basterds (2009). If you haven't seen anything from him then I highly recommend it, dialogues with him involved is as captivating as movies can get.
It's uncanny that he'd be your favourite mate. I always find it a bit weird watching Alf Roberts getting murdered. Hoffman is another great shout. DeNiro has to be up there. As well as the classics you've mentioned, I loved his portrayal of the homicidal socio path Max Cady in Cape Fear. Although whether it is better than the original with Robert Mitchum is debatable.
May be dismissed as just a good looking a-lister, but my favourite actor is leo di caprio, had some incredible roles, and is the master of the on screen freakout!
Morgan Freeman cant disagree with him as well, top top top film in the prison escape film, the name escapes me
I like Ducovny because Im a big xfiles fans and liked evolution and califonication. I hate Jason Statham because he never acts. He just plays the same gravel voiced hardman in every film.
and least favourite is easy, adam sandler has been in some right awful films http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4YNuVvVprw really showing my age with my choices!!
The Shawshank Redemption? #1 on IMDB's all time best films. http://www.imdb.com/chart/top?ref_=nb_mv_3_chttp
The Shawshank Redemption. Nicholson has made plenty of bad films, same as any top actor really. Wolf, The Two Jakes, Something's Gotta Give for starters. However, his corkers far outweigh the flops. Shining, Easy Rider, Chinatown, About Schmidt, As Good As It Gets, One Flew Over. Ahh, what a man. The two best actors living today are Daniel Day Lewis and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. This cannot be debated.
