Not sure if anyone is boasting; just a discourse on history. Is winning your first game in the second tier worth shouting about?
It was a sell out but due to safety restrictions on the new building capactiy could only be 90%. We couldve sold it out many times over.
I can’t even remember what stand I was in for that game, although I think from the vague memory of my view of Keates’ goal, I think I must’ve been somewhere in the West Stand. It felt very strange that day.
I sat in the West Stand once because my dad got a couple of corporate ticket. It was weird. Enjoyable, but weird.
Can’t remember anything of any note, can’t remember the pub or the game (apart from Keates’ goal looping in). Just remember it feeling completely different to the Hull City experience as I knew it and couldn’t frame it or put my finger on anything – just seemed odd. Does anyone remember if the Hartlepool fans were put in the North Stand and how many they brought?
garbage. a) that would mean all the other lower records also don't count because there are other equivalent divisions in other leagues all round the country rather than one huge national division with hundreds of teams in it. b) there were two tiers above division 3 south so it was third tier and the fact it was a regional division and the gate was still higher than the subsequent national third division record makes it all the more impressive.
City would have the record for the 3rd tier, and some places give it to us, as we sold 55,000 tickets for that game but there was a transport strike that day, so "only" 49655 turned up. Pretty impressive when you consider how few people had cars in those days. I wonder how many nowadays would walk or bike it?
Further to crowds, interesting to see a list of each club's highest crowd. Amusing to see the record crowds for some clubs our more recent fans have described as small or insignificant clubs in comparison to ourselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_home_attendances_of_English_football_clubs Interesting to see that Charlton, Bolton and Blackburn all have higher record crowds than Liverpool.
Highest ever 2nd division attendance in the World.. City of Izmir (Turkey) local derby.. Goztepe vs Karsiyaki 80,000 1980/81 Season Izmir Ataturk Olympic Stadium http://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/dec/06/theknowledge.sport I've been to matches there including Goztepe vs Galatasaray.. it's enormous http://www.google.fr/imgres?sa=X&rl...&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0,i:94&tx=105&ty=84
Bus of 'lively' fans. Would never do. Funnily enough, that fat lass pulled up her replica shirt and wobbled her norks at a Hartlepool night game a year or two later Cue stewards, tug of war, melee etc
My memories terrible, but I recall having to go in their end (their 'kop') one match around that time or a few years before as we'd sold out.
