No panic here yet, both gards and wor jack a versatile players, why on earth would pdc want to lose either, to me they should be cover and i think they will be even if this season is their last at safc

Now Cest. I have you down as smarter than this. The press are just stirring. If you don't sign at least one recognised full back I will wear a Sunderland shirt declaring my hatred for Alan Shearer and take a photo of it to be put on here.

PDC is not that daft (he does have his moments mind you)

Its almost worth not signing a full back to see this..... Will you do it at Sid James Park?

I repeat what I said the other day. Wouldn't overly concern me to start with Colback and Gardener. The bigger concern would be that one gets injued pretty early after the window closes. Agreed above though, we will get at least one.

Personally I think Gardner is adequate and Jack is very good, although neither of them are modern attacking fullbacks that I think PDC would like but is having trouble getting them in. Gardner is also a good penalty and free kick taker..I am not so sure either of them are that good in midfield, Jack does not look like scoring, but did keep Lennon and Milner quiet (no mean task). In other words I am not too bothered if we do not bring in two full backs, I am certainly not against it and yes it will strength the team but imho the improvement will be only marginal

For my two penneth worth I would target another good striker and creative midfield player before the full backs.

I'm not ****ting it just yet, but i will be if we don't sign two decent fullbacks in the next few weeks. whilst gards and jack can do a job, they won't last the whole season. With absolutely no cover in those positions or competition for places we'll be buggered.

If we fill one of the two positions things wont be so bad! But to rely on Gardner AND Colback will be very worrying indeed!

i've just been trying to follow some kind of cryptic tweeting thingy from the same fella that was first with the n'daiye crack, reckons our next signing wont be from serie A and will be a left back?

I wonder who it could be?

PDC if playing the game, if he comes out and says were desperate for 2 full backs the price will go up. If he says we don't really need them because we already have 2 players who can play there he might get a better deal. Its a game of poker and it seems to me no one is going to have DeFanti or PDC's pants down when it come to transfer fees or wages

At what point have I said a) I didn't rate Gardner or Colback or b) That I didn't like either lad?

What I am saying is they are very poor full backs and that trying to convince us they are suddenly great in that position just because PDC says so (and a few others who have been sacked btw for consistently playing square pegs in round holes) is wrong. Its a ridiculous scenario that in all the world we cant find a left back and a right back in 3 months?

I reiterate that failure to do that one task and playing 2 central midfielders there instead, will cost us and the manager dearly this season and we will be extremely vulnerable defensively IMO, especially since our ONLY proper full back has been so publically ostracized by the management for not a great deal tbh.

Telling us that these two are good enough cuts no mustard with me and is just waffle and bullshit?

Suddenly I've quite taken to the thought of Gards and Colback as full backs? :emoticon-0116-evilg

Cover is fine for 1 or 2 games but as our starting full backs? I will be ****ting bricks that Gardner will either be suspended, injured or just give away too many penalties for ****e tackling and Colbacks positional skills as a full back is appalling, worse even than Richardson and he was a ****e full back too.

I think Gards & JC will be adequate against most teams BUT they are NOT recognized full backs. They will be decent against most teams but imo they both will cost us points.
Gards is one of the best penalty takers I have seen wearing a Sunderland shirt but he is also international class at giving penna's away. I can recall a minimum of two last season at home and I have a poor memory.
JC needs to decide whether he can convert to LB and make the position his own cos he aint gonna get many chances in midfield.

PDC is now our 4th manager, I can recall, where we still need to sign full backs. If we do not sign any full backs players I would like to see the youth given a chance in these positions in the cup games.

i would be aswell mate, but i dont think think our set up would allow it, our business doesnt come into the media until they want it to in the main, its all very nice us speculating and having fun with this link and that link, finding footage and looking at wiki stats etc, but none of us have a clue whats going on, agents touting players, lazy journo's finding new stories off here.

At the end of last season, and for alot fookin longer if we are honest our 3/4 main positions have been LB,RB, box 2 box creative mid and potentially a striker.

What we have done imo is add strength in depth all over the squad but our main prioritise are yet to be fulfilled and I (at this moment in time) firmly believe that they are still as high on the agenda as they were in the first place.

I cannot see a team like we have allowing us to start the season without the requisite players on board because if they did that would be a failure, and i dont think their pride would allow it

not that bothered with having jack at left back. it's gards at right. he's far too reckless in the challenge to have anywhere near the penalty box. but as someone said previous - have we not got any fullbacks in the reserves?
