We Norwich fans should know better than anyone that the opening day result does not reflect how the season will go. We've just had four fantastic seasons and we haven't won a single opening match - in fact two of them have been absolute shockers.

i actually went to watch ipswich yesterday as i was in the area seeing friends (nobody turns down a free football game do they?).

it was a terrible match. reading were way off the pace, very disappointed with them, but they picked up after the break. after a tricky opening ten minutes ipswich bossed the first half without really doing much but were all over the place after the break. both full backs struggled but they are both kids to be fair. heads went down a bit after reading took the lead with what looked like a slightly fortuitous goal but not seen it on tv yet - must have been from fully 30 yards. a draw would possibly have been a fair result as reading were so abject for so long but they had that bit more quality when needed. in truth, having predicted reading would be near the top pre-season, i may have to reassess that opinion, albeit its still early days of course! they need to make some moves in the transfer market because i don't think they've made the improvements necessary to be in the top 2 - i still think they'll be a contender for top 6. ipswich look like what i already knew they were - solid, organised but lacking in quality and inspiration - the epitome of mid table. passed it ok first half but there was so much hoofball second half i felt sorry for the front two who barely had a kick. taylor by a considerable distance their most lively player and only played a short while as sub. very good away support though, fair play to them. looked like over 2k to me. still less than we took to a youth match but nevertheless... ;)

nice to watch my first match of the season but glad i didn't pay to go, unlike my old man who was in the away end <laugh>

Just seen this on twitter! Personally, I don't think we should hate Ipswich! Pity them in times of trouble maybe, but hate??? What do you think?

I don't think there is anything wrong in that Dave, after all we are rivals so there should be a certain amount of 'hatred' if you like. but wouldn't want to see any harm go to Norwich the club, players or fans. that for me is when for me it crosses the line.

I look at it as we are a community, on most things we won't see eye to eye but when the chips are down we will look to back each other up. <ok>

It's a healthy rivalry in my eyes. Our rivalry benefits both of us (and even more so if we were both in the Prem!).

However, if I was offered a contract out of the blue by 1p5wich, I would still turn it down out of principle!

That's a fair assessment Guru, I just think hate is carrying it too far, the only thing I hate with a passion in this World is my second ex, and even she had to work very hard to reduce me to that!

Hate covers a whole range of emotions, you can have a good natured hate in my view.

I take your point but I can assure you there is nothing good natured about my hate for number two! ;)

Oh, I don't know. If it was a playing contract, take it, start a game, score an own goal then rip the blue shirt off to reveal yellow and green underneath. Then make for the border and never buy your own drink in Norfolk again!

Good idea :D, you would probably have to bypass the county of Suffolk for the rest of your life though or risk being captured and burned at the stake.

I like the idea of keeping this thread open. Apart from the fact so many ex-canaries are involved, but it's also a good way to learn about exciting talent worth keeping an eye on - without having to watch every match <yikes>

I think the idea I had originally was for those of us with an interest in Championship teams and the league itself, which is in many ways more open and interesting than the top flight,to keep an eye on what is happening. Now of course so many of our erstwhile players turn out for sides in the division that has added extra interest.

I for one will be at Portman Rd when Wigan come down, just to see if the Grolt does the same to them again.

Holty has unfinished business at Portman, he didn't score in the 5-1 thrashing! He needs to get a hattrick this season!

I was thinking that. missed the second half. How did it end? Did Rudd look impressive?

I watched it all (bar the first 10mins of the second half). To be honest, although Blackpool created a couple of openings, Rudd didn't have a great deal to do. He did seem good in terms of taking crosses and commanding his area though.

How selfish of Ipswich to get knocked out of the League Cup - how are we supposed to play them now?
