I’m totally into music I used to annoy my family to death with it. It gets a bit dull sitting about in my cell all day so I listen to a lot of it. I thought I would share my desert island discs with you all and hopefully some of you lot will rise up and do likewise. I’m like totally obsessed with The Beatles particularly The White album. I could probably fill my whole selection up with tracks from it. I used to play Helter Skelter constantly. I drove my family round the bend with it. So I’ll opt for “piggies” by little George Harrison instead. George really strikes a blow against the man with it. Dig it and watch these fascist pigs squirm man. Neil Young was like a really good friend of mine man. He gave me a motorbike once. I used to dig the fact that he drove around the canyon in a hearse. Really trippy dig? Wow I find this one really comforting somehow. Far out. Some of my family used to play this a lot as David Bowie mentions me in this song. I’m only including it for them. I think he’s a really weird cat and looks sorta like a ***got though. This is a kinda newish band I think. I think they will go far man. please log in to view this image
5 Vids? Tricky, i'm normally loathe to choose my 5 or even 10 favourites as they are wont to change but here goes, bases solely upon the moment. If there is a better guitar riff then I've yet to hear it: I love The Police, my favourite band and I make no apologies. This in my opinion is their best song. When I was a kid this was the best band on the planet for about 2 or 3 years - and with the best frontman. Another fantastic song, from my Current favourite active band. This is what rock was meant to sound like. To hear this live is awe inspiring. Have to go for this, best live band i've ever seen. Incidentally this is my phone ring tone.
Shouldn't this be Desert Ireland Discs..... actually I wish I hadn't said that as these music threads seem to be one of the few places that don't undergo not606s` Irefication process.
Anyway.... five desert island discs...tricky...but... On Desert Island Discs they pick eight records they would take, so, ignoring your rather niggardly implied stipulation of five... of course, if I get shipwrecked tomorrow there might be some changes
Well if it's 8 songs then I can squeeze in Bowie: And these two too
I think you`re right...........I suppose that would need to be a record player of some sort....with a built in solar powered generator...although , if that's already included in the desert island disc deal then I`d take along one more tune to cheer me up when all that desert islanding gets me down
Good un mate Just back from me hols all 1 day of it, so what better than to pick a few faves. Difficult to pick 8, but I'll give it a go. I love Opera Music - honestly cant get enough of it. So my first pick is. The Damned and Curtain Call. one of the finest operatic bands the UK has produced.
My 'Desert Ireland Disc' is a classic reggae song. Johnny Was by Stiff Little Fingers. SLF at their best.
No.3 From South London Fruitbat and Jim Bob Prince In A Paupers Grave (A bottle or two of JW to keep you company).
No.4 My first from the US. I would have to have something from Lana Del Rey. I just think she has a beautiful voice. Hard to choose, but I've gone for 'National Anthem'.
No.5 Patti Smith with 'Because The Night'. Morbid t*** that I am - this is my funeral song.
No.6 'Just Like Fred Astaire' by James. I could pick any amount by James, but this one is top of the tree for me.
No.7 The Jam - Art School I think this might have been the first song I ever heard by The Jam. At their early best.
and the final choice. I had to think hard on this one. Was it to be Take That, Spice Girls, One Direction, even the great Robbie. No, I simply couldn't choose from such a select list, so I've eventually gone for a song by a little known London band from the seventies. The Clash with, (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais.
I think art school was the first Jam song I ever heard too ( in the city was the second album I ever owned ), I`ve got that pink sleeved/green label "white man in hammersmith palais " sitting in the unthrowoutable singles box about 2 meters away on a shelf and I`ve always loved SLFs version of Johnny Was..... ..perhaps you should drop by for tea

I like that Elgar tune Dan, don't recall hearing it before. I forgot to add any classical tunes even though there are many I love so i'm going to cheat and add this:
