So Guardiola is coming in for some fairly vehement criticism from the German press and his own players, who are accusing him of tinkering, being too fastidious and too focused on attention to detail in training, and messing with a winning formula at Bayern. He is also being accused of some rather dodgy transfer dealing due to his brother Pere (obviously familiar/ubiquitous to us LFC fans by now) representing recent BM acquisition Thiego Alcântara. Is Pep's success so far just a one time thing, the product of a certain fortuity at Barca having been able to instill a methodology and ethos into one team and ensure the set-up was tailored to that goal, or is he the real thing and capable of reproducing that success in the Bundesliga?
Heard about this on TalkSport (got in on in the background), its ridiculous considering he's been in charge for such a short period of time. Is it just one competitive game too?
Guardiola was part of a chain at Barca, a very strong chain. He work at Barca, new all the methods, the formula, the players, every thing. He worked his way up and got promoted from with in with the job of carrying on the good work. A lot of his job was already in place, he just had to keep stirring it. Bayern is his first real challenge.
Sorry, I didn't answer the point of the thread I think Guardiola has a lot to prove. Fair enough, he won a hell of a lot at Barca and is a record holder for his achievements too but LD could have won trophies with that squad! If he repeats it then I'll respect his achievements a lot more however since he is with Bayern, he still won't be seen as a all time great or the best of the modern game in my eyes. Drop to a lesser club and do it!
#letsnotsaythingswecan'ttakeback LD would have fielded an 11 man centipede yeah, he should have went to Stoke.
Guardiola and Moyes are both going to face the same problems this season. Unfortunately for them their very existence is not in their own hands. They can work their socks off and make the best decisions possible and just pure fate can kick them in the teeth.
A week ago it was Bayern on the roll, 50 goals for, 3 conceded, then they lost to Dortmund and **** hit the fan, then they won the audi cup. not sure where all of the negativity is coming from. Dortmund are going to run them all the way, not like they Sheghua IX or something.
It's ridiculous to right him off, but also to say he's one of the greatest manager's is stupid as well. Yes, he must be able to work on tactics and be half decent given what he's won, but he did it with the best team on the planet for 3 years, with the best player in the world and 2 best creative midfielders behind him. Most decent managers would have won what he did with Barca. the fact Barca don't feel the need to go and replace him with a top class manager (his assistant, and now some guy from Argentina) proves that they don't think they need to pay a top class manager to continue to win things, knowing that any half decent manager can do it.
The problem for Pep is that he cant be as successful this year as they were last year unless he wins the treble again!
Pep is a very good manager - winning those trophies in that short of space of time is no mean feat. Barca were in a 'decline' towards the end of Rijkaard's reign but Pep managed to make a few tweaks and brought them back. Not just back to winning, but turning them into one of the best club sides ever. Incredible achievement.
One thing I think people forget is that Guardiola is very young for some one managing a club like Bayern. People will judge him like he is an experienced manager of Mourinho and Ancelotti's age. But he is not much older than his players. At Barca it was different because he was already at Barca and knew the club inside out. If he fails here it does not mean he cannot be a great manager. Though that is how he will be treated and it could ruin him. Huge gamble. Agree that a winning formula should not be changed though.
All I know is that since Arsenal last won a trophy, he retired as a player, became manager, won 15 odd trophies and took a year out. Where do you want to go again Luis?
