Well its not entirely JB:s fault, that we pay him so dearly. Warnock and co. did promise him too much because of the hurry (which bernie and flav caused) the transfermarket. Otherwise you are entitled for your opinion of Barton.

Diversity of opinion is what makes this place work mate, long may it thrive. Should add though that on another day barton could have been sent off in that game, although he would have been unlucky.

Another day he could have scored from that header and gave four passes which all have leaded to goal for QPR.......;)

because.....Gary Linekar was technically gifted as a footballer and had the ability to play the game well?

Karl Henry and Joey Barton in the same midfield <laugh>

Barton does far more than shout and get stuck in. Frankly, getting stuck in isn't a strong part of his game and he didn't offer Simpson enough protection IMO. However, his vision and long passing can be very good. Both the cross for Hoilett to miss a sitter and the long pass to set up Hoilett for the great Kirkland save would have had Match of the Day cooing if they had been from a media darling. As it's Barton, 'pundits' will focus on him lazily leaving a leg out for a winger to do a swan dive over.

He'd walk into any team in the league and most in the Prem if fit, physically and mentally, and you couldn't fault him yesterday, for once.

Hi Eddie, I totally agree, if he is fit and has the right attitude,we should definitely play him since we are paying him.

I'm at the beach on vacation, I delayed my departure so I could watch the game yesterday. I started reading your book at midnight and am in the cemetery with you guys. Does that place still exist today ? I think I'm going to enjoy your book. BTW I have no internet for my laptop so am using my phone. This is my first attempt at text messaging so my daughter is acting as secretary or I would be here all day .

To be fair mate Barton actually looked technically gifted and showed a fair amount of ability yesterday.

Karl Henry? Yeah well, jury's very much out for me, got caught in possession a couple of times trying to be clever which he ain't.

Answer the question yourself. You'll spot the flaw in your own argument. As you are using Derry as a hypothetical example we can stick with him but anyone else would do just as well eg Hill or Mackie By all means they can get stuck in and will be provoked and occasionally fouled or assaulted. But they never react the way JB did that day.

He played very well yesterday and I give him credit for that. However, one day he will blow his top. It is inevitable. We cannot afford to delude ourselves that he will ever be reliable.

Maybe you're forgetting the way Derry reacted when Ashley young did a swan dive at LR last year, he had to be dragged away, if he hadn't been he too probably would have been sent off. But then those players don't get the same treatment Barton gets cause of his reputation.

I also can't remember a player taking a swing at any of those players, but I'm sure either clint hill or Derry would react if someone did.

But my point was that we as fans wouldn't have reacted the same way to Derry if it was he who had seen red mist. But it is fair to say that while any player is capable of losing it in one game, with Barton there's the potential in any game.

Barton's reputation is fully deserved though. The longer he's around the more inevitable some embarrassing fiasco becomes. His ability as a player (not that I think its that great) is irrelevant to the embarrassment he brings to the club.

The more I read this thread, the more I am convinced it is here just to wind me up.

Barton is, was and will always be a thug. I don't care how well he plays, I do not want him at my club.

Are we that desperate, clueless and to top it all, so devoid of decent values that one good game can transform this thug, cretin, lowlife, continue to add as you wish, to hero?

I must be blind and my football knowledge gone completely out of the window that we are happy with Henry, Dumbarton and O'Niel in our midfield.

This is a recipe and result that only Dumb and Dumber could have concocted.

And by the way, I wouldn't care how good Barton is (and he isn't), he wouldn't be anywhere near my club if I was in Dumb's position.

Is it not true that any person who is bordering on being a nut case is normally quite gifted in whichever their chosen field?
Barton seems to be a 'walk up start' in this evaluation.

Don't understand what "walk up start" means but if you're inferring on Dumbarton bordering on being a nut case you are mistaken. He is a fully fledged disgusting piece mascarading as humanity, that he can google and look up some past literary and philosophical greats and quote them does not alleviate his own postion of being quite frankly "White trash".

No Aussie, this is a complete myth. It's often said that people with autism have 'idiot savant' status in some fields, such as numeracy, memory for detail etc. Well some do, but 99% don't, they are disabled to one degree or another. Similarly, sometimes it is said that people with bi-polar disease are especially creative. Wrong - in the manic phase of their condition they may have a lot of energy and may feel great, but this is usually directed to ultimately destructive behaviour such as overspending. Bi-polar disorder or its variants are again terrifying and socially crippling conditions.

None of this applies to Barton, he's just a wrong'un.
