Interesting article in the Sun, it seems like a leaked story. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/5050908/Charlton-on-market-for-whopping-40m.html
Doubt all the players are transfer listed otherwise Church on a perm deal and Sordell on a deal would have been the last things to happen. Money troubles no doubt and the board trying to sell up, but im sure we're not as bad financially as everyone else seems to make out, especially charlton life or whatever it is
I notice... 1) No journalist wishes to put their name to this piece of ****! 2) The Club are desperate for cash that all the players are up for sale....... BUT...... the owners want £40m for the club?????..... so how does that work then? The Sun has worst Journalists than the Daily Malice! So what does this piece of crap tell us? 1) The Club is up for sale...... well nothing new there then 2) The owners want a lot of money for it...... we have had two prospective buyers pull out because of the owners valuation.... so one again, nothing new there 3) Players are available for sale...... if we get a good offer for a player and the offer is right then he will be sold.... I think we all know that don't we? So basically the Sun has published a story out of diddley
Looks like someone has been using the Soaraway for their own agenda, and not someone within the club, I fancy. The Sun journalists are not stupid, they know the story is rubbish, so I wonder why they published it? Doing someone a favour? Who knows?
Name a championship player that isn't available for transfer, at the right price? In fact the number of players in world football not available must be countable on two hands. Me and my brother used to refer to it as the Raul rule.
I am sure it could be a prospective buyer who wants the chuckle brothers to lower the asking price.40m for a club with a lot of debt, pie in the sky.
What do you actually get for your 40 million? Would that figure not include paying back what is owed to the "chuckle brothers" and their backers?
this is embarrassing for us. having owners who dont even want us. god knows what it means to other teams. "lets look at charlton players, they'll be cheap cos they need the money".
I can confirm that, contrary to popular belief, there are good journalists on The Sun, but unfortunately, they're outweighed and outshouted by the Neanderthal management and the unspeakable ownership. Unless any journalist is willing to put their name to an article such as this, I simply ignore it.
The forty million would be payment for the club then you would have to pay the debt, plus what is owed to the previous directors, should we get promoted to the Premiership. So I would reckon it would cost some 80 million. The current owners picked up the Club for a nominal fee of a pound. That is why asking for forty million is pie in the sky. How long the current owners can fund us at the current levels, your guess is as good as mine.
The question is-Is it possible for a club to run at a modest profit in the championship? That's what our owners have failed to do, and how would any potential buyer be able to? Promotion is pretty difficult, especially with the amount of parachute money available to relegated teams, so how do you cut costs in this division? I can't see them continuing to put so much money into the Academy, unless they get a bit more in return. The Doctor has just said publicly that he wants to be allowed to add to the squad, which implies that he doesn't want to promote any of our young players. So why should our owners keep investing in the Academy?
So if they are really asking for 40 large, PLUS all the current and legacy debt, no one is going to pay that. On the other hand 40 all in could actually be a fair price. How much of our 8 million lose is servicing "mortgage" style debt on the north stand etc.
Spoke to my former employer (boo, hiss). The story is recycled from CP's quotes and general forum talk.
All my long life, "40 large" has meant "40 thousand". When did it change to "40 million"? Talk about inflation!
Forest, I reckon the academy is a long term thing, and just because we have'nt got any players who era ready to make the step up now, does'nt rule it out for the near future. Given the academy results last term, I would be up in arms if anyone suggested cut backs there at this point.
If it was a rehash of Internet stories and what Chris Powell has said, why did it appear in the People as well.Did they do the same as the Sun? To my knowledge Powell hasn't mentioned the 40 million asking price. Internet forums have not mentioned the 40 M asking price, until it came out yesterday. Powell to my knowledge hasn't mentioned the fact that all the players are up for sale.Puzzling!!
