Just watched AVB's video - he sounds annoyed by it all - pretty much echoing the fans feelings I think. The relentless media campaign to 'free Bale' has gone too far now - his reference to the FA was almost like a 'come on guys, help us out here! are you not seeing this?' I'm much more confident that we will keep him having seen that. Big respect to AVB for doing a video like that and standing up to Real Madrid as well
Referring to the bit I bolded - I think they're quite happy to pay the ridiculous fees we've seen - however, we need pretty much all of it upfront otherwise there's no way we can get anyone anywhere near his quality in the team in team for the PL. The reports I've read suggest Real are only willing to spread it out over 5 years - no help to us. What good is £20m to us now for losing Bale? Not much good at all.
Perhaps Real should have thought about their priorities before spending £50m+ on Isco and Illarramendi
I completely agree mate, they're prepared to pay it - which is a little scary in my view, how the hell do they have so much money when the rest of the Spanish economy seems to be in such a mess? Anyway... - but I think they're coming in a month too late. Levy would never take a scheduled payment of instalments IMO. I think now is too late for Levy to sanction any sale as we don't have the time to process transfers. We seem to be taking a bit longer to deal this summer which I guess is both good and bad. If we really did get £100 million then we'd be looking at 4 or 5 top class players coming in presumably and we'd never get it sorted in time IMO, and even if we got them in by the deadline day we've been banging on on this board all season about how an unsettled preseason can have season-long effects, we'd be truly buggered if 4 or 5 starters were negatively affected by a last minute move. If we sell Bale, one or two bad results early on and the media will crucify us even though it would probably be down to the problems I've mentioned just now than lack of quality in terms of players. WY -
AVB has stated publicly what I have been saying. Everything has been media led and R(spit)M have behaved appallingly through Marca and written statements by coach and players. Yet the spineless associations FA & UEFA allow it to go on without sanction- one rule for us....! No wonder Levy is ropable.
I can't see Levy agreeing to payments in instalments over 5 years. That's just plain ridiculous and makes RM look like the joke outfit they are when it comes to respecting others teams. What good can come from us losing our best player for £20m and have to wait another 5 years to see the rest? Our chairman won't accept a deal like that in a million years, surely? Strategic partnership? My arse!
Real only want to pay £20m up front for Bale, with the rest of the world record fee spread out in instalments. (Source: BBC Football website) In which case, I sincerely hope that Levy tells Perez to **** right off!
'Apparently' Joe Lewis has stepped in to do the negotiating to insist on the deal going through entirely in cash or they can take a hike. I honestly don't think Real have the cash. They're most likely closer to insolvency if they had to pay that in one lump. Personally, I wouldn't want this deal unless we get a player/s plus cash deal. Something that softens the blow. Real need to learn they can't always have it their way!
I would very much enjoy Real blowing their funds on Bale, realising they can't afford it, and becoming a financial wreck a la Portsmouth/Rangers. It would serve them right for the underhand manner they've conducted business in the last 15 years. No more golden handshakes from the Spanish government to bail them out anymore.
That's what I heard, too. And it's the only way that we can possibly do business. If the Spurs board extend credit of £80m+ to Real, they should be struck off at the next AGM for sheer and utter incompetency. More over, it's a complete and utter piss-take! We can all by expensive players on the tick. It now becomes apparent why Real haven't made a formal bid- it's because they don't actually have the money to make good on the deal, if we accepted. Hopefully, that has been explained to Bale and his twat of an agent, and the player can now get down to the business of working towards a CL place for us, with his new team mates.
Yeah and just remember where a sizeable amount of the Spanish government's money comes from... the EU. They are a net gainer from the EU, whilst the UK is a net loser. So the irony is, our tax money is helping to pay for Real Madrid to buy our player! WTF? Talk about a bitter pill to swallow!
Yep, this does stink a bit and when it comes to Real, the stench is overwhelming! If we do offer credit, we should make sure that the interest on what is effectively a loan is sky high seeing we still effectively own the more player more than they do for half the term. Sheer insanity! If they miss a payment, they have to hand him back. Simple.
Good thinking, . I'm hoping, however, that Joe lewis makes it absolutely clear to both Real and Bale's agent that there is no deal on the table until and unless Real come up with the hard cash. Just imagine the political uproar when the Spanish find out that their government has to close a couple of hospitals so that Real can buy Bale! That would make anything that the Glaziers and Mad Dog ever do in their entire lives look tame, even wimpish.
Sounds like a familiar story. The city of Detroit just filed for chapter 9 bankruptcy and days later, The Michigan Strategic Fund APPROVED to spend $284.5 million to build a new $450 million arena for the Red Wings hockey team, whilst ordinary people will lose their state pensions. You couldn't make this **** up!
When it comes to defensive targets are there any names been mentioned, apart from this Chariches bloke? Time to bring Ledley out of retirement?
£20m quid a year over five years for this player? Yeah right! Take a hike Real!
If this is all true we can't sell now. How about this Real Madrid, you go away and come back in a years time or however long it takes until you have saved up enough money to make this deal possible. Until then **** right off!
how about they give spurs 20 million a year and in five years they can have him when they have finished paying .
I am extremely surprised by AVB's comments I have to say. To sell now would be a pisstake of the fans. If a sale was going through, I think it would have been very much a "we're not talking about Gareth bale in this interview" stance. I don't want to seem optimistic over this, but I certainly feel more hopeful of him staying now.
