Lots of positives and a few negatives from today but I thought both keepers were excellent. Green didn't have loads of saves to make but I thought his ability to take crosses and throw himself where he might get hurt against a team that wouldn't have looked out of place in charge of the door of Watford Oceana was refreshing after watching Cesar flap and fap most of last season. For all the stick he gets on here, I think he's comfortably good enough for a team aspiring to go up from this league. Kirkland was man of the match for me though. I don't know what's happened to him to fall out of the Premier League but some of those saves were world-class IMO particularly from Hoilett in the second half.
Green dealt with some crosses ok, but honestly didn't have much else to do. Kirkland was very good, I'd have confidence in him.
Kirkland was brilliant and nearly got Wed a point We have to finish but early doors Barton was very good Ego gone and focussed great pass to JH who ran at the Wed defence and was very good
Got to agree, Kirkland kept them in it with some great saves. That being said, Hoilett should have had 3 at least, he looked so much more confident today than at any point last season. Barton played well, Faurlin did well enough although he put us in it 2 or 3 times with some sloppy passing, same goes for Henry. Simpson looked good but needs to work on his heading. Hill was excellent, Zamora was not. I think Austin will score plenty and we'll also add 2 or 3 before the end of the month. All in all, a good start. I've seen the highlights on Sky Sports just now, how on earth they think Wednesday were unlucky not to get a point I don't know, it should have been 5 or 6 but we still look very vulnerable at the back, hopefully Dunne will get himself fit in a couple of weeks and get things a bit more organised.
Kirkland was also their heartbeat...constantly encouraging, shouting, speeding things up A true leader....was out early at HT practicing to get a grip of the sun in his eyes Magnificent professional...shame he had to lose
Good post Beth Pointed out in the match thread that Green was very good today. Did everything asked of him, goal if not unstoppable was not down to Green, relieved pressure from the defence at the end like a top keeper should.
I watched some highlights on sky a little while ago. They made it seem that Sheff Weds were very unlucky not to get a result and showed there chances rather than ours.
They will make it look like SW should have got into double figures! They had about 3 good chances, post, goal and the bad miss on the break, we must have have 6-8 quality chances.
