While that is true another win for Hamilton and a DNF or a lower points haul for Vettel will be sweet for mercedes and that is a much closer route to the title than a challenge from Nico. Remember is a few race wins from the championship lead with Vettel getting no points while Lewis is in with a much better chance at this stage of the game. If they just want to perform well then they can let the two race but if they are seriously out for the title then team orders should come into play if necessary. If Lewis qualifies ahead of Nico and runs away then there wouldn't be a need but if red bull is close by then Nico may be asked to back up the field a bit to give lewis a few seconds advantage. Or if Nico is in the lead and they are doing similar time or lewis is doing better time they may decide to pit lewis first and let him get a run in clean air...maybe....
I agree it is a good time to re-evaluate one's position. One aspect of this though, is whether or not a team sees itself as a real contender for the Drivers' Championship; and not that I wish to dampen hopes, this is far from clear at the moment. What should be remembered is that if a team is not in the running for the Drivers' title, adopting the opposite policy; a 'free-for-all' for both drivers, can often net a bigger combined points haul. At this stage, my guess is that Ross Brawn and his bosses will not yet feel convinced they have a title challenger, regardless of who's driving; and that they are likely to postpone a definitive decision for at least the next race, or even a few more until things become clearer. On the other hand, the decision will be made far simpler if Hamilton does what is realistically NOT expected, by winning the next couple of races. To put it simply, given the relative standings of their drivers in the Drivers' Championship, I think it's a little too early for Mercedes to put all eggs in one basket. Right. Over and out (for the night, as it were… )
I have decided not to read the last few pages. On his move to Mercedes Before it was announced I was kind of half hoping for it because I thought he was stagnating at McLaren, a couple of race wins a year and finish 5th in the championship. He really should have been 2012 champion but luck and McLaren errors loat him about 150 points. Plus I think Whitmarsh is bad for McLaren and the whole central data sharing and Hamilton really should have been made number 1 after Canada. I was hoping he would go to Mercedes and try to do a modern Schumacher. But I never thought he would move - I was clearly wrong. I expected his move to be a good choice in the long run. But I never thought the first win would come in 2013 let alone another 2 for Rosberg. I viewed 2013 as a bedding in year in which he would set the foundations for greatness in 2014/5 with the new regs. Ie. build the team around him, become his own man, have loads of input on the 14 car etc. The results Mercedes have had this year though have far exceeded what I expected. The sudden dissapearence of McLaren however I don't think any fan could have predicted.
Actually its kind of similar to how i thought Raikkonens return would be better than Schumachers for many a reason but never thought it would be THIS MUCH better.
I'm a Kimi convert... I thought his return would be shocking. How wrong I was. I now find myself cheering for him. .
I think he really wanted to stay but after all the crap at mcLaren last year he had no choice and after he was forced to reveal the telemetry to prove his point (and that Mclaren wasn't totally honest with him) he had absolutely no choice. I think that was the straw that broke the Camel's back in my honest opinion.
Me, I did not believe Englishman Lewis Hamilton would leave McLaren for Mercedes, ever, never ever, in fact, however I was proved wrong. Lewis has possibly made the 2nd best move of his F1 career, McLaren being his 1st, his initial progress at Mercedes has been, we could say justifiably, steady, his confidence took some time to establish but now with a dominating superb drive at Hungary, we are, going forward I belive going to witness the resurgence of the unique Hamilton we all know exists behind the sunglasses and unnecessary ear-ring. Another Hammy WDC is on the cards.
