Yeah, this. Literally out of thin air, I picked a random season; 2001-2002. You failed to reach the knock out stages. So yet again your fans have a profound desire to lie.
WRONG. We got knocked out in the 2nd stage 2001/02 Champions League Group C 1. Panathinaikos 12 Points +5 GD 2. Arsenal 9 Points 0 GD 3. Mallorca 9 Points -5 GD
Even if it is a technicality I can only think of one year when it was 2 group stages that we failed to get out of the second group in the last 13 years, ever since it reverted to a single group stage we have qualified, so you original post that we only recently started to qualify is wrong.
No one is denying Arsenal have done well to get into the CL every year for 15 years, but lets face it, it's a financial achievement, it has earned you a lot of money and brought no additional success, though I will say of course that it's great to get to watch your team in the CL every year and the hope of winning it, even if that hope is bob and no.
Exactly my point, the 2nd group stage. So as your fellow fan wrongly suggested, you have not made the knock out stage continuously.
Unfortunately the CL has such massive money at stake that even winning a carling cup or even an FA cup is deemed second rate these days. Liverpool have been out of it for a few years and have suffered a bit financially because of it, which in turn makes it more difficult to buy and pay players. Even now some sponsorship deals have clauses that you will not get the same money if you dont make CL. While it might not have brought additional success it did help us to build a stadium, something both your selves, everton, spurs and even Chelsea all want to do.
Why are the argument about CL performance. The ONLY point in being in the European Cup is to win it. Now we've done that 5 times, Arsenal haven't won it once. End of argument. The ONLY consistency that Arsenal have proven is that of losers. Now back to talking about Suarez. He's never said that he wants to go to Arsenal. Liverpool have refused Arsenal's 2 offers. Liverpool have said that it is not their intention (and never has been) to sell him. Suarez has not referred his contract to the Premiership or handed in a written transfer request. So end of for Arsenal.
As I said, the reward is financial, fan enjoyment apart. It might behoove Wenger to spend some of that CL booty on players though
They must have sifted through hundreds to find one that fits their articles of him wanting out. Taxpayers money well spent.
