sorry i'm entitled to my opinion if you don't like that you are just going to have to come to terms with it on your own somehow.

If your enjoyment of this forum is ruined when people you don't like post, then maybe you'd be better off not following, because people you don't like will post occasionally. None of us here can change that for you.

So do any of you think mercedes will start to favoured Hamilton now that Rosberg doesn't have much of a chance to fight for the title? Seeing they have the qualifying speed isn't it possible for them to team up and one will run off while the other hold up the other top teams? If I was looking for a championship title that is what I would do for sure.because once the mercedes doesn't have tyre trouble and they open up a gap I doubt very much any team will catch them especially since they are really fast when the heavy fuel is burnt off. If I am wrong I will accept but I doubt very much. I think mercedes will pull the contender cards with the blessing of Nico now and start to favoured lewis.. To me that makes sense. Nico will get a fat Christmas bonus for his team spirit for sure.

I know... you pointed that out, and I accept it. But what can I do better to make you feel at home and become(me) a better contributor?

I'd give it another few races before they start to implement any form of team orders, and even then it would have to look like at least one of their drivers has a realistic chance of catching Vettel.

If the odds are stacked against them, I think they'll allow them to race without hinderance.

Looking at recent results i think a more important question is whether Nico will be able to consistently get himself in that position to help hold the field up, his form and luck right now is all over the place. I doubt he'll be able to match Hamilton now anyway so a imagine the best he'll be able to do is qualify 2nd, so i mean he's already in the position of rear-gunner whether he wants to be or not, Mercedes really don't have to force it on him, exactly how it's been for Webber and Vettel many times in recent years, even though Webbers form is now dreadful as well.

    Guys. Please.
Out of fascination and unexpected free time, I've had a read through this thread. Personally, I think the "humble-pie" aspect to the title of this thread doesn't help; but perhaps it's beside the point…

As has been said, there is an argument going nowhere. The personal aspects to it are inflammatory and futile. Continuing it can only further polarize the opposition.

It is a great shame that the topic itself has become diluted with what appear to be unhealthy personal attacks (from more than one source). Every opinion is valid. Goading those with a different take on things doesn't help anything meaningful. If I may say so, the strange thing about it is that every participant has the capacity to be very reasonable. And every participant HAS, at some stage, made an attempt to be reasonable.
Please look for the efforts others have made. Try to give credit where the tiniest effort has been made. And then, do not re-ignite the embers with further unnecessary provocation.

Far be it for me to be making this request, but in the absence of it coming from elsewhere, I'd like to make a personal plea that those concerned all take a step backwards.

Take a breath. Regroup. Do not wage war.

    Please.

[Edit: I wrote this without seeing the most recent few posts. It is warming to see that efforts are already underway to get this thread back on topic. Thanks.]

Thanks for your opinion... While I agree that if the odds are stacked against them the team will let them race to the finish i believe that if mercedes gives it a few more races then it may be to late to mount a serious challenge. I think they have to sit down right now at the break and work out the right strategy to mount that challenge to red bull and Vettel and I believe team orders will point them in the right direction...then if it gets away from them then let them race to the end but right now lewis has a real chance of battling for the championship. If Rosberg were in lewis' position I am sure I would be saying to let Nico go for it even though lewis is the guy with the bigger contract. Remember mercedes was supposed to be the team fighting with the midfielders this year. People were also saying the midfield teams will beat them.. But it is turning out that they are challenging the top teams and performing well. So if Nico was out front I would have advocated for mercedes to favoured him for the championships at this stage.

The important thing would be for both to take as many points off Vettel as they can and hope the other teams can too. Maybe that will force Vettel into errors and with that maybe a DNF or two. Pressure can do amazing things to a driver. Lol. But to be serious... If they can continue to take points off Vettel then he will start to feel pressure.

You are so right. That is why I am trying to get a discussion going on not only his moving to mercedes but the question of if its time for team orders now at the halfway stage in order to mount a serious challenge to red bull and Vettel.

If Rosberg is asked to take a number 2 role, It's not exactly going to motivate him to perform in the second half of the season, so I'd think they're better off just letting him race personally.

Even at the expense of winning a title and maybe two? Would he be motivated if he has no chance of winning the title? maybe he will be much more motivated if the team had a realistic chance of overhauling vettel and red bull and of course there a nice looking bonus with his name written on it? Lol. What do you think?

i mean he did say that he intended just to "annoy Vettel" earlier in the year, but that was about himself being ahead so i don't know if that may be motivation enough for him to aid Hamilton.

It is a very interesting point, Dhel.
I think it fair to say it would not happen at McLaren; but I acknowledge this mentality can undermine a bid for the big prize most people first think of. In the circumstances currently facing any team seriously thinking of challenging Red Bull's perennial charge for the Drivers' title, sticking stubbornly to a McLaren-like, 'even-handed regardless' policy might easily be seen as comfort to competitors – and this has very much been the case with Red Bull, Helmut Marko, and Vettel in particular!

No driver wants to be cast in the role of supporting act. Every driver has (and needs) an ego which can easily be perceived as selfish. But all selfish employees need to be managed in some manner (even McLaren try to do this, although their policy is necessarily extremely difficult to manage well).

On the other hand, Ross Brawn has a long history of negotiating a route which is best for the team. Whether or not he feels the need to draw the lines now is quite another matter…

I think I'd deal with it if/when it becomes an issue. It may be something they don't have to address, so dealing with it now could just cause disharmony within the team. I'm not sure a constructors or second is motivation enough for any driver personally.

It's certainly the case that most teams would prefer not to feel the need to dictate to its drivers. If Mercedes can avoid the need for it, so much the better. However, they do have two strong drivers. And when a team has two strong drivers, they will naturally take points from each other throughout a season.

It's always a matter of making a compromise and different teams will make different compromises at different stages. Ferrari, for instance, tend to adopt this policy right from the word "go", pretty much regardless of who's driving for them or at what stage in a season. It should also be borne in mind that Red Bull's whole mind-set has been, right from the start, to 'out-Ferrari Ferrari'!

And look where it's got them…

    ;)

Yep... Merc have a strong pair and there is potential for them to take points from each-other, and they will need Rosberg in a support role if it looks like they can take the fight to RBR in the second half... but if they don't need to do it now, then don't. A win for Rosberg and a DNF for Hamilton in the next race could change the landscape again.

Somehow I think now at the break is a good time for team discussion on the topic..they will have time to examine it carefully and all the cobwebs and misgivings will be clear by the time the next race starts....both of the drivers and the team will have a clear head about what is to be done and will have the right spirit to implement the policy. I am sure Ross will be telling the team. Come on guys, they said we would hardly beat the midfield lets go out three and take a championship or two and show them. Lets not fight over which driver wins the actually title because we win as a team we lose as a team... We will go for who ever is closest to Vettel in the championship... Maybe Rosberg side of the garage will see the importance of them winning the title or maybe two titles instead of coming away as runners up.

Bit unfair on Rosberg tbh. He's won more races, and he's had far more mechanical issues.

That's why they shouldn't yet.. the landscape could still change as far as points.
