That must mean Graham to us.

Are you sure this is confirmed? Last thing I heard, the striker wasn't making any decision until he returned from his hols...

:smiley-finger007:Don't worry lads. The board have assured Warnock that we'll not have to sell our best players.... So that's alright then.

We won't lose Graham to Swansea. If we bid £2.5m already, we will surely match or top £3m. Can't believe Graham would want to move to Wales.

We all share your frustration, but it is important that we sign the right players, not just someone. MacKail-Smith is not the right player, in my opinion, so good luck to him and Wigan. With a very limited budget, Warnock has to play it cagy. Wait and be patient, if anyone can get the right player, he can.

The only source to back this up is in the sun, so for me, there is still major hope.

Hmmm don't really agree with this. NW waited and waited to sign a striker last close season and ended up taking a punt on Hulse out of desperation. The rest is history. Getting the best out of a squad is Warnock's strength but his success when dabbling in the transfer market has been mixed to say the least (and not just at QPR). The very big names looking to maximize their deals will still there to be snapped up in August but if you are looking for bargains as we are you need to act now.

Couldn't agree more. Hulse was dire. Chimbonda and Tofas were pointless. And Vagen-Moen, while untested, hasn't merited the hype that surrounded his arrival. Kenny, Derry and Tarbs were outstanding, but overall its a bit 50:50

Well, quite. There are some very capable players out there: Graham, Morrisson, Mackail-Smith, O'Hara, Naughton, Walker etc, in areas where we are looking to strengthen. Given what sounds like an increasingly limited budget, I can't shake the feeling the board are being penny wise pound stupid.

The reality for us at the moment is very simple for me

Our news headline is that Ramage signs a years extension.....

Norwich have already tabled multiple bids and signed a player that are going to give them a realistic chance of survival this season.
Swansea are also not hanging about, they are already bidding to strengthen; trying to sign a player that in my opinion will suprise the Prem.

On the flip side the bookies have us 1/2 to survive in the Prem, so maybe, just maybe they know something we don't????

    but I fear they don't

To me, buying MacKail-Smith would be a move of desperation. In the previous season, when Peterborough were in the Championship he scored 10 goals in 39 starts. Not Premier League material - I think I'd rather have Hulse (ducks behind desk and waits to be slaughtered). With such a limited budget, it would be daft to blow a load of it on a player that didn't set the Championship alight.

If half of Warnock's deals come off, that probably makes him as good as anyone without the massive budgets. Even Sir Alec signs donkeys.

The best will get snapped up first... that's common sense!
NW is on hols in Scotland! Flabio and Bernie can't match calendars! So no decisions being made.
How amateur is that. Is this any way to run a premier league club?

Watch MacKail-Smith a number of times this season.......huge step up to the premiership......think he will struggle.
Not worth that sort of money compared to how much we spent on Mackie !

I actually wasn't commenting on MacKail-Smith specifically but on the general need to get Prem quality players in sooner rather than later. We saw the brinkmanship involved in our acquisition policy last summer which really did not deliver the goods. If you are working to a strict budget then you need to use your market intelligence as early as possible. Of course if there is a change of heart and Eccletore are actually going to dig deep then we can make a bid for Ronaldo in late August...

I took that as read, mate. When it is Graham signing for someone else I will agree with you. MS would only have been a bit part player at best, therefore no reason to get upset. As ever, we don't know what is going on behind the scenes (hopefully something is!!!). The better players (with good agents), I'm sure, are being advised not to jump at the first offer, but to wait and see for a couple of weeks. These players may well be on holiday themselves, and will definately be pushing for the best deal that they can get. I would agree that we want players in before pre-season training starts to give us the best chance.

Don't mention Ronaldo, we will end up with the fat, toothy Brazilian has been.

Many of the players are on their hols as well as Warnock and won't be in a rush to sign for anyone if there could be the opportunity to play two of three clubs off against eachother.

Same goes for the clubs. I doubt whether a club will sell a player whilst there is still the opportunity to start a bidding war and push the price up. In business terms then they are very stupid if they do.

Most of these deals are done very much behind the scenes. If Makail-Smith's agent thinks that QPR are interested then he will have been on the phone already, sounding them out. Smith and his agent won't rush into anything without looking at all the options. Same goes for Graham at Watford (and the next 20 names that will pop up on this board in the next 10 weeks).

There are some players for whom an auction will be held. Whether it be an auction for a house, a dining room table, a portrait or a footballer, anyone with any sense will go into it with a top limit as to what they are prepared to spend. The trick is to start low and not to get carried away and pay too much just because someone else is bidding and wants it (him) more.

Over the next few weeks remember this:

If a player that YOU think should be bought isn't, then it could be for a number of different reasons.

    1. The price demanded is too high.
    2. The wages demanded are too high.
    3. The player doesn't want to play for the club.
    4. The player doesn't fit in with Warnock's system or his overall plans.
    5. The manager doesn't rate the player as highly as some of the fans do.

Unfortunately when a player that some people think should (or could) be at QPR goes to another club then all we hear is:

    1. The board are not prepared to part with the cash.
    2. The board don't know what it is doing.
    3. The manager doesn't know what he is doing.
    4. Other clubs are stealing a march on us.

and a new one for this year ...

    5. We would have bought him if Mittal, Bhatia and Seksena had been in charge!

We will never know why a player hasn't ended up at Loftus Road (unless you read the ramblings of a tabloid journo trying to make his word quota for the day). You could pick from any of the above explanations. It depends on your own agenda. If you want Mittal to own the club then you will always point to something from the second list because it suits your way of thinking. (Just like the reports in the papers. People believe the things that they want to believe and discount as pure "drunken journo rubbish" all the things that they don't want to believe.)

Let's not confuse opinion and reality. Let's just wait and see, shall we?
